  • Grocery Store Help Please!

Hey all - heading to the grocery store tomorrow to stock up on all the low carb friendly foods I can find. I'm just about out of lettuce, and all the veggies and meat I bought just last week.

Need any and all suggestions you can throw my way!

    Thanks!

Re-stock with more veggies, meat and cheese. You might want to bring the Induction acceptable foods list with you, then if you see a veg you might want to try or a herb/seasoning, you will be able to see if it is acceptable for Atkins or not.

I made a really nice veggie dish, onions, courgettes(zucchini), eggplant(aubergines) and fresh garlic cloves choopped fine. cover with olive oil and roast in a baking tray in the oven till just done, doesnt take long, about 10 to 20 minutes depending on how much you are cooking. you can sprinkle some herbs and a bit of salt too if you like.

Don't get the Atkins Bars! They are addictive and stall weight loss! I learned this the hard way!

Karen, that sounds good... I just had fried eggplant for the first time last night. How thin do you slice the eggplant and zuchini?

Jess you might want to print out the card and carry this with you to the store. You can find it here:

Yeah, and meat can be EXPENSIVE. I got so much chicken, then beef, turkey, ham, salmon, tilapia, etc. Wish salmon could cost as much as tuna

                      Re: Grocery Store Help Please!

I've been going nuts buying Brazillian Mahi Mahi. It's very inexpensive at our local grocery store.

I've found that I can really cut the price I'm spending on meat by shopping the specials each week and stocking the freezer. My only problem lately is that my kids have gone on a pork strike. They absolutely refuse to eat any pork at all.

On the other hand, I've gotten the whole family off of soda and they are now eating more veggies instead of snacks. That saves me money. My 18 year old cracks me up, though. He's complaining about eating Atkins by proxy. He goes through the crackers and bread I buy for him and his brothers and they spend several days eating only the Atkins friendly foods that are left in the house because I won't make a special trip to the store for carbs.

Sounds like you had a successful grocery store trip... Having all that variety of meats could lead to an awesome menu plans. The meat counter guys are getting to know my regular cuts and what I like (big roasts for the family, wings, drumsticks). You also know how to be picky and give you the best cuts. Just make sure you are also buying vegetables and perhaps roughage - like flaxseed.

                          Re: Grocery Store Help Please!

                          Hi,

I have a question regarding FINDING Atkins/low carb food. I've been looking everywhere for the mixes, cereal, etc that's okay and can't find any low carb. There's all kinds of sugar free, but have high carbs. Is there anywhere that you can find "Atkins" products that don't involve mail ordering? GNC only has the Atkins bars, and the grocery stores have pratically nothing.

                          Thanks,
                          Charlotte

Acng, I dont buy any processed 'lowcarb' products so cant help you source them, but I am sure if you let members know what part of what country you live in those who do use the products will chime in with where they get them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
