  • New addiction: Peeing on the keto strips. I can't stop....!

Okay, so I've given up my addition to carbs (I hope -- am feeling great!), but everyday (sometimes more than once a day) I am drawn to peeing on that little strip so I can watch it turn colors. Even when I KNOW I haven't eaten anything off-plan, I still want to see the proof of being in ketosis.

Today is day 6 for me, and I've lost 6 lbs. While I know a good bit of that is probably water, I'm still pleased. Of course, I'm ready to lose all 100+ NOW, but I'll take it a day at a time.

By the way, I registered on fitday.com to keep track of my food and really like it! It's so easy! (Thanks for the tip, Rich.)

I was looking through the Atkins cookbook last night and saw all sorts of good things (I realize the site here is a great resource, too). I'm realizing I need to try some recipes very soon before I get bored with what I'm eating.

If it makes you feel any better, I pee on them at least once a day. Of course, we're only counting M-F since I think Sat and Sun it's at least twice if I'm home... I know people say it's wrong, this affair, that it's a waste of money... but I still like to see them change colours. Of course, I also get on the scale a lot so I'm not sure which is the worse addiction. :P

Thanks, Lyssie. Glad I'm not alone. And yes, I'm addicted to the scale, too. Actually, for me, I find it keeps me more on track. And.... I read somewhere recently that people who weigh everyday (or regularly) tend to weigh less overall than people who don't. (Of course, I know there are good reasons not to weigh as well.) For me, I find that's true. When I'm off track, I stay AWAY from the scale -- a sure sign I'm probably gaining!

Thanks, Kat. And I'll look for Outback Jess and InHisGrip.

Now, for other crucial matters, I tried to click on your link to "cellulite" in your signature, but it said I was restricted? Is there some great insite to cellulite you have to share, because I have a dimple or 100 I'd sure love to get rid of!

One more question.... what does "rep" power mean in the upright corner (and how/why does it change), and also how do you become an admirer, admiral, etc? (Not that I'm looking to climb the ladder so soon... just wondering what all those things mean!) Okay -- sorry. That was actually 3 questions. Thanks!

Have a great weekend. Looking forward to seeing less of all of you next week!

            Hey girlie!

I just checked and the "cellulite" link is in the "Woman's Forum". You need to send a PM (personal message) to Bren for access. (Click on UserCP above, then "send message".)

There is a thread around here called "rep power" and it explains several things. I'll bump it up for you and paste the link here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29463&page=1&pp=10 (bumping means that I'll post a reply to it and it will move the message to the top of the forum. You can click at the top on "new posts" and see it there also -- unless it is awhile before you get there and it falls back below other new messages.)

Those titles by our names are just automatic and based on how many posts you've created on the board. Each level you'll get a new name. I'm not sure of all the names there are, but check on a person's post to see their title (on the top left) and then the amount of posts they have (on the right).

            I hope this helps!

              Hi Adena

I'm a total keto strip and scales addict too!

It makes me keep on track!!

Someone on here gave me some really good advice regarding the keto strips - cut them in half as they last twice as long - I thought this was being a bit of a scrooge at first, but they last twice as long, and work just the same, so now I cut them in half all the time - an excellent idea!!

keep thinking thin - and good luck

Neither the scale nor the ketosis strips have the answers you seek.

You can lose entire sizes on Atkins and see no scale movement at all.

Ketosis strips are a cute tool to start with, but you can still be in ketosis and see no color change at all.

Cultivate patience, in all things, and that will serve you for a lifetime. Honor your body by allowing it to set its own time frame for weight loss.

How we speak to ourselves is so important. Never
affirm that you can't stop. Of course you can. We can do whatever we make up our minds to do.

Its time to exchange irrational addictive behaviors for serenity.

Hi, my name is Thinker, and it is has been 3 hours since I've pee'ed on a stick.

Me too - I buy 2 boxes of them at a time. Silly - but it makes me feel better.

I'm addicted to my stix too! Thanks for the tip about cutting them in half.

Thinker - If the progress on your ticker is any indication (93lbs lost) then I'd say the keto stix addiction is a good thing. Congrats on your success

Tabekat, Don't worry, not only am I addicted to ketostix and the scale, but I also record measurements once a week and try on this pair of abercrombie pants that I used to wear all the time... See, I use all neurotic behavior evenly!!!

The problem with the keto sticks is that they really don't tell you much of anything and what if you start to measure nothing on the stick. What will you do. Many folks can't get them to work at all and they are sometimes affected by the weather, etc. Pee on them all you want, but if they quit registering anything, don't panic. It might mean that you didn't eat a lot of fat that day..

Kat, thanks for the "ADBB 101" info. I did look around (admittedly not for very long), but didn't find that info, so I appreciate you pushing it to the top. By the way, I love the statement on your signature "A year from now, you'll wish you had started today." I can't tell you how many times I've had that feeling. As much as I have in front of me to lose, I have to keep reminding myself how quickly time flies (and of course, mini-goals help a lot).

Great tip about cutting them in half -- thanks, Jane. And thank you for the warning about them, Desertthorn. As for everyone else, it's always nice to know there are other people out there feeling (and acting!) like you do. (Hi Thinker, my name is Adena, and it's been 2 hours since I pee'd on a stick.) And, Lyssie -- I like the idea of continuing to try on the same thing over and over. I'll have to start doing that, too. As for measurements, I haven't done that yet. I know I really should. I did, however, take some very scary bare stomach (front and side) photos...

Tabekat, I also appreicate your words and encouragement. It's true that addictive behaviors -- "all or nothing" is my affliction -- are what got us here. But, I also believe people are motivated by different things. For me, measures such as the sticks and the scale validate the hard work I'm doing. Of course, looser clothing is also a great indicator.

Thanks again, all. I apprecate the insights, support, and good discussion!
