  • Sonoma vs. Atkins

My husband wants to start the Sonoma Diet. Anyone have an idea how bad this is going to conflict? My feeling is that anything with Whole Food is not going to be too bad. Olive oil vs. butter... not a big deal. Breads and wine vs. Meat and veggies....hmmm.
Any former Sonoma people out there?

I did a search before I started this thread, but if any moderator can refer me to a previous thread, I'd appreciate it.

I've never heard of it to be honest, however, if it works for him...
Just have a chat with him and mention compromise, and how difficult it could be if he's allowed all the things you aren't, and vice versa.

I haven't heard of this one either. I did a google and here are a couple of links.

The official site where you can't find out much until you sign up: http://www.sonomadiet.com/publicsite...D1304F06D&np=1

And a review of it: http://www.healthnetwork.com.au/weig...onoma-diet.asp and http://www.reviewplace.com/prod-1342...noma-diet.html

The book sells for $39.95 here in Oz.

It sounds like quite a reasonable diet, lets you have more carbs than Atkins and enjoy wine, but carbs are restricted, along with calories.

        Re: Sonoma vs. Atkins

That's how I feel, if it works for him... I was off Atkins last year, but on it for a previous year, and he was supportive of me, so I want to be there for him. He does not have as much weight to lose as I do. Eventually, up on the rungs everything will even out I think. Whole foods are important to both. If this means no cookies in the house, he can eat grapefruit all day, if it makes him happy. I will check out those links.

          Re: Sonoma vs. Atkins

I am a Sonoman........This is just the mediterranian diet that the wine industry supports here in Sonoma/Napa counties to help sell their wine. It's frustrating for me to see because the wine industry here manipulates and gets Ag laws pushed like cigarette companies. Hey if it sells their wines!!! Looking at it from my perspecitive it just helps to pollute our waters and grounds with pesticides.

It just irritates the heck out of me that wine is glamorized. It's a toxin no matter which way you look at it. Unless it's organic the toxins far outweigh the benefits.

Sorry I hi-jacked this with my own opinions.......Some of us here who promote organic farming and non GMO foods fight the wine industry and it's not small quaint vineyards they're all corporate owned. They fought and passed a bill last year preventing GE free Sonoma County.

Anyone can write a book these days it seems using the original concepts of Atkins

He has tried the Perricone Prescription, which also used wines, but he has never been a big drinker. I will mention to him about the benefits of organic wines. We do try to buy organic whenever possible. So no conflict there.

I love wine and think if you can work around him and there is not a conflict go for it ...
