  • Is this a realistic goal?

    I started Atkins 8/15/06 at 180 lbs. So far, I have lost 5 lbs. What is a realistic timeline to lose another 40 lbs.? I have set small goals for myself. But, is it unrealistic to believe that I can lose 40 lbs. my Valentines Day? I would love to buy a sexy outfit that day for my hubby

    I workout 6 sometimes even 7 days a week. I follow Atkins to a "T". Am I setting myself up for a disappointment?

    Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

    The rate at which you lose is dependant upon other factors, like what you weigh now and how tall you are. You should also keep in mind that if you want to look better, not just weigh less, that you should be doing weight training. Also, most bodies need at least one day of rest from exercise for maximum benefits...

    Just my thoughts, but either way, you'll definitely look much better by V-Day.

      I do Tae-Bo 3times a week, 60 minutes of weight training 3 times a week and then on my "off" day I walk 4 miles. I am 5' 5" and weigh 175 lbs.

        FitDay.com has a lot of great tools. According to the calculator under weight, I think somewhere between New Years' day and Valentine's Day of next year would be realistic for a goal of 175 - 135. You would be losing at a rate of 1.6 - 2.1 lbs per week.

        If you lost faster than usual (2.5 per week consistantly) the weight would be off by December 15th. However,it's always best to allow yourself some leeway. A lot of people's weight loss slows or stagnates for awhile.

          I can't imagine you not achieving great results by combining Atkins to a "T" and exercise! There's no better formula for success! Keep up the great work!

            I totally agree with Betty, that seems to be a really good goal and quite realistic and if you keep up the way you are going then I'm sure you will achieve it! I'm a firm believer in exercise in this WOL and you are already dedicated in that area. I would suggest having 1 complete 'off' day a week tho.

            Did Atkins on and off from Feb 2005 until April 2008. Fluctuated between 15 st 1/211lbs and 11 st 1/155lbs.
            On different weightloss programme from 28th May 2008 start weight 14 st 11/207lbs.
            Current weight 10st 3lbs/143lbs.
            Ultimate Goal Weight 9 st/126lbs.
