Re: I can no longer digest protein

have you met our friend flax seed meal? lots of fiber in that and it has some protein and lots of healthy fats. it can unclog inductees very well.

As not2late said if you are eating vegies and fruits to relieve constipation you are getting proteins in them too. What happens if you eat nuts they have fiber protein fat and carbs?

      ditto and try seaweed soup

constipation ? this is totally confusing me ..can not digest proteins.....do you think your liver being clogged is causing constipation? and the gallstones???all these tests....you must have tons of money are amazing insurance that is for sure!!!

I am all about all kinds of wholistic practices in life but there are some that defy even my simple logic ..

I am not getting any of this...

so I am going to gracefully bow out and go back to the idea that food is good for you and wonderful tasting whole foods are even better for you ....

good luck and I hope what ever is going on with you is resolved soon ..for your own sake ....it sounds very involved

Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble. Just a thought, protein takes longer to digest than carbs usually. Is it possible that you may have gastroparisis?

Re: I can no longer digest protein

The thing that I"m thinking from some of your posts....

you said "animal protien" gives you the problems. Have you tried organic?? Sometimes the hormones in meats can get to us.

Keep a VERY DETAILED food journal so you can see what is going on. I would say write down INGRIEDIENTS, BRANDS ....EVERYTHING. You need to know exactly what is going in your body and what is happening. When you eat a food, write a paragraph how you feel afterwards. Like I said it might just be one brand.....maybe certain fillers.....something. Assumming it's a very broad protein....probably isn't accurate.

You don't really beleive those pics on Curezone do you? I'm not saying some things won't help get stuff out of your body.....(my sis just took a contraption to help with her kidney stones) but...those pics are totally made up. If that stuff was coming out of me....I'd be in the ER stat.

I think everyone was sort of.....on you...cause you are assuming it's protein and being on atkins too long.

There are a ton of things that could be going on. It might just turn out to be something like Irritible Bowel. I would say keep going to the doctor...and keep changing them if you have to. have you been to an endocrinologist? Whatever is going on you need to find out what it is.....you may have to DEMAND tests...some docs need a little prodding. You really have to be a proactive patient today unfortunately.

good luck and keep us posted. I'm interesting in what happens.

UPDATE!!! Re: I can no longer digest protein

This is an update to this old post. That was me then. This is me now. I was recently diagnosed hypothyroid. Your thyroid regulates virtually every process in your body. Every doctor that tested me for it missed it! The standards/numbers are different now. The docs shouldn't be testing for TSH only. TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone! My health got so bad I could no longer digest protein, therefore I could not low carb anymore. I'm now at 163 lbs. or so, but that was before I found out I was hypo. It's been a long struggle. I've only been on my meds (Armour Thyroid, Not Cytomel or Sinthroid) for a 2 days and I feel worlds better. Please please please, note this: if you are not losing weight by low carbing, there may be a very good reason for it. This website has EXCELLENT information about self-help and self-education about hypothyroid. It's called Stop the Thyroid Madness ("STTM"). Go to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com. It took me about 2 weeks to get through the whole site (I work full time). But, if you've ever suspected you're hypothyroid, go in there and learn. Then find yourself a GOOD DOCTOR. You'll find on STTM links to the Armour website that will tell you which docs prescribe Armour. But you still need to call and ask them if they treat by symptoms and REGULARLY use Armour Thyroid -- not Synthroid, Cytomel, etc.

Also, I recently passed a kidney stone and had a pelvic and abdominal CT (no contrast) revealing no further stones. Hypothyroid patients will often develop kidney issues.

I am very glad to hear you are in a much better position now than you were in. I am no knowledge of hypothyroidism, so I just say keep up with it. Take care of yourself!

Re: I can no longer digest protein

glad you are getting better I too am hypothyroid. we have a section on low carbing and thyroid if you would like to check it out in the health section. I'm curios why you wanted T3 right away and were not willing to see if your body would convert your T4 to T3 for you. I know if fixes you up faster but then you miss the knowledge if your body can cause if it can't you need other treatment too.

Have they standardized the dose in the Armour now? i know that was the issue before as not every pill in every lot contained the same dose and you could be under or over medicated from refill to refill and why the development of synthriod and levoxyl was a Godsend for hypothyroid folk.

Re: I can no longer digest protein

I'm glad you found your problem. And you also exemplify what Dr. Atkins wrote in Chapter 20 "Metabolic Resistance: Causes and Solutions". He specifically mentioned thyroid disease as one of the reasons for the inability to lose weight.

Re: I can no longer digest protein

Well, I'm glad you solved your problem. I was worried that you might be having serious problems with your pancreas, as it is your pancreas that secretes pancreatic protease, which is a key protein-digesting enzyme. I was thinking to myself, "Oh my God, I hope this lady doesn't have pancreatic cancer!"

Wheeeew... so glad it's just hypothyroid and can be treated easily!
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
