Well i got my cast off and i'm in a walking boot now. I'm in alot of pain and they did another xray and i really dont see any good bone growth. he asked me if i was drinking plenty of calcium etc. I told him that i was on atkins and he told me i really need to focus on eating foods high in calcium. Yogurt, soy milk etc. So looks like i'm gonna have to be off Atkins for a little while again. I can still monitor it to a certain extent ya know carb intake etc. I dont need potatoes and pasta ya know. But just the basics. I told my husband that i dont want to get off but he told me that it's my bones that need my help right now. You can start again on induciton when your bones grown back together...

Just wanted to let yall know.

There are veggies with calcium, like broccoli and something I don't eat so I don't remember it. There are always calcium supplements too which most women should take...

Hey, hang in there!!! I hope your little bones are on the mend very soon... maybe you can jump up to the Dairy Rung for awhile until you get the okay that your bones are healthy and strong? That way you can stay on Atkins, plus get your calcium in too (plus, the others are right ~ there are lots of sources of calcium aside from dairy)! Then you can jump back down to Induction if you want when you are better.

Take care of YOU! Keep checking in with us, of course! You are such a motivation to me!!!

Don't discount hard cheeses as a source of calcium. I read somwhere there is more calcium in a block of parmesan cheese than in 2 2 gallons of milk. Keep it in mind...

I agree with the others! You DON'T need to get off Atkins to get calcium! I broke my leg too and regretted going off Atkins (didnt go off due to calcium). Please don't do something you will regret later.

Hugs to you and sending you healing vibes now!

                Sorry about your leg.

Are you getting enough Vitamin D to help with those bones too.

seems your doctor isn't nutritionally educated. here are some calcium numbers from the USDA and it seems 4 ounces of cheese has more calcium then 3 cups of milk, soy cheese, or 3 sevings of yogurt. All values are raw in this list. The bottom list is from the Rhode Island Dept of health. I bolded all the foods they are recommending to prevent osteoporosis that are Atkins induction friendly

breyers yogurt one container Calcium 114
one ounce cheddar cheese Calcium 204

                  Re: Cast off

OH i did a bunch of research last night. I will just ad some yogurt and some soy milk daily but otherwise continue what i'm doing. I eat lot's of green leafy veggies (cabbage, spinach etc.) so i'm ok in that department. I found out that soymilk has more calcium than regular milk? GO figure? I'm not a big cheese fan cause what it tends to do to my gastro tract....yuk! I'm gonna stay on just ad a yogurt and a glass of soy milk daily. I take daily vitamins now that have calcium but i'm going to go and get me another supplement tonight. Just straight calcium. Also i need to do some more research on Vitamin D is that what i read?

I gotta get these bones mended...i just thought that after 35days i would see a big improvement....

                    Re: Cast off

actually only calcium fortified soy milk has more calcium then regular milk.

if you are going to add yogurt in your rung 2 make sure it is low carb and see if it has been fortified with extra calcium. cottage chees has some brands fortified too

also if it is fortified then it is basically regular with a calcium pill added so you could save your mony and just take a calcium supplement with yiour foods.
