  • Teas, drinks, etc.

I just don't understand all these talks about tea. I love peppermint and camomile tea, but I can't figure out about the caffeine limit in them. Maybe I can't drink them at all during the diet? Or how much per day? It says that green tea has less caffeine. I don't know.

I drink (almost) only decaffeinated coffee, a lot of water etc.

I found a drink called "REACTIVE Sport Slimline". It is with lemon flavour and sweeteners. It has 0 gram carbs, but, there's citric acid; Na cyclamate, Acesulfame K and Aspartame. There are a lot of vitamine and L-Carnitine. Can I drink it often? Although:

    Re: Teas, drinks, etc.

I'm sorry, but I'm not that concerned about aspartame or this website. I read it, I understand it, I still have a couple questions about it -

    1. We should all remember that 1981 was when AIDS was coming out of the woodwork so a lot of the regulations surrounding how drugs are put through and what drugs need to do to get approved were changed. You also need to remember, there were horrid practices for approving drugs before 1981 so this was like, a turning point year. I can provide more documentation given more time, but this is just a brief overview.

    2. A lot of people who work for the FDA go on to work for Pharmaceutical companies. It's how they support themselves.

    3. I'm not sure the dates they're issuing the information from regarding ARMS (years, divisions, etc) since I worked on a chemotherapy drug that had over 10k SAEs, I guess I'm not understanding where he's getting his numbers from regarding ballooning the 10k SAEs to over 1 million of them.

    4. When getting approval for a drug from the FDA, and it goes through clinical trials, EVERY ADVERSE THING THAT HAPPENS TO A SUBJECT IS RECORDED. In the listing of adverse events that aspartame has on people, I don't see the listing of what percentage of each one and it's probability of relation to aspartame (this information is recorded to the FDA for each adverse event which is or isn't related).

Anyway, I need to go home, but I had to reply to some of these things immediately.

Please note that this post in no way implies that you should or should not ingest aspartame, it only states issues I have with that website.

      Re: Teas, drinks, etc.

since you ask about tea the answer is drink your water first then when you have drunk it all you can have other beverages caffeine free like teas BUT our daily limit on ANY sweetner is 3 total servings from all sources. so if you have 3 cups of that tea then youhave used up your daily total.

DOn't you love it when they try to use science to scare you. Folk eating a pieace of fruit or some veggies ingest more methanol from it then they get from a serving of Aspartame but you didn't see that website asking to ban those.
and he has the human body reaction wrong too geez what kind of scientist is that person?

the ADI for aspartame is 50mg/kg of body weight or 20 cans of soda a day for somebody weighing 154 pounds

At first, Thank You 2big4mysize and Lyssie. Other meanings are very important to me. So, about that website. I don't think it's all veritable. I put it just because I wanted to show the bad points of Aspartame. It didn't affect me much though.

2big4mysize - did You mean 3 cups of tea with any sweeteners?
I was talking about herbal teas without anything etc.

          Re: Teas, drinks, etc.

Sweeteners have a limit on Atkins: 3 servings daily. If you use 1 packet/teaspoon of a sweetener that is 1 serving. Likewise, you drink an artificially sweetened drink like a diet soda. 1 serving of that soda counts as 1 serving of sweetener.

For example, this menu has used 6 sweetener servings, 3 more than the daily allowable limit.
Breakfast: 6oz decaf tea with 2 packet of artificial sweetener
          Lunch: 8 oz diet soda
          Dinner: 8 oz diet soda
Snack: 6 oz decaf coffee with 2 packets of artificial sweetener.

Also we are supposed to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water daily on Atkins, partly because ketosis/lypolysis has a diuretic effect and partlly because water is a better beverage. So in the example above, those beverages total 28 ounces of fluid which do not count as part of the 64 ounces daily water intake.

Be careful about herbal teas and decaf coffees, depending on the carb counter/nutrient database you use, these beverages can have about 1 net carb per serving. So those carbs will need to be counted towards your daily carb intake.
