  • Good Pediatric Visit

I took my son for a check up at his pediatrician for his ADHD yesterday. He has ADHD and we go in for a check up every six months or so. He's 17, so it's important for him to learn to have discussions with his doctor about his medication and how he's doing in school. He surprised me, however, by telling his doctor that he's having some leg cramps which he is worried might be related to a low magnisium and potassium level due to his change in diet. The doctor asked him what diet and he answered Atkins. To my great surprise, the doctor did not throw a **** fit. He told my son to eat more vegetables and not worry about it. I know the kiddo is actually fine. He doesn't skimp on the veggies he's allowed. He's more likely having growing pains again and I'll need to buy him longer jeans next month. The doctor also agreed to run a thyroid test on him when I told him aobut my extended family history with hypothyroidism.

More veggies is the next step on OWL so thats great. I would make sure he's getting enough calcium but personally I don't believe in Potassium supplements unless prescribed by the doc. Dark greens are loaded with the stuff and encourage him to eat fresh veggies.
It sounds like you have a very smart young man there. Congratulations.

There is a calcium/magnesium/potassium supplement at GNC that has helped me a lot!
