I'm just about to start the Atkins diet again but want to know what can you snack on? Last time I did it, I ate sugar free jelly (sometimes with fresh cream on as a treat) and pork scratchings. I can't face eating pork scratchings again, the thought of what they are doing to my insides is enough to put me off! Also, what can I have for breakfast if I don't fancy scrambled egg or a fry up?

Re: Snacks
what i have noticed on this board thus far is that most people say, if you dont like the thought of eggs every day for breakfast that leftovers are great. so whatever you cook for dinner, make a little extra and save it for the next day...either breakfast or lunches.
i personally cant stomach eggs every day and have been known to eat tuna salad with an oz of cheddar cheese on the side for breakfast (odd at that time of day i know).....
snack wise, i have done the obvious pork rinds, sugar free jello, cheese......i try not to snack though....at least not beyond that.
the food chat/recipe forum has a lot of great ideas for all of those things......good luck!

Re: Snacks
I'm the same as Seshena. I ate leftovers of all kinds for breakfast on induction. Sometimes a hamberger pattie with cheese or chicken breasts with cheese and bacon. I've also eaten things like saurkraut and sausages, taco salad (without chips) almost anything. I never had a problem with eggs everyday either. I've always been that way so I guess I'm lucky like that. Todays breakfast is whole grain toast and chicken curry!
Induction doesn't last too long usually, so just be creative.Male, 255 start / 185 now / original goal of 200

Re: Snacks
If your sugar free jello has aspartame in it then that could cause stalls. Also, it's a good idea to totally get away from sweet tasting things during the first two weeks of induction. That way you can kill the sugar monster.
Devilled eggs are a good snack. Cheese is also good (stay within your daily limits though). Veggies and dip, a dill pickle, meat and cheese roll-ups. These are all good snacks. You will probably find that after a couple of days you aren't very hungry so you won't get the urge to snack anyway. There are lots and lots of good things to eat though.Female, 46yrs, 5'3"

Re: Snacks
For breakfast...anything that you can eat for lunch or dinner can be eaten for breakfast. I typically have leftovers. For example, this morning I had a leftover turkey burger patty, a half tomato and an ounce cheese.
Snacks follow the same rule: anything on the list. However, you should only eat a snack if you are hungry between meals.~Megs~

Re: Snacks
I'm looking forward to going back on this diet because I lost 8lbs in 1 week last time but I just couldn't stick with it because I just got so sick of meat. I actually got to a point where I'd rather not eat than eat meat. I must admit though, my appetite did go down as well so that was a good thing. Fingers crossed I'll succeed longer than 1 week this time. I also did this diet about a year ago, but kept on cheating so ended up putting on weight rather than losing it. It's very unforgiving this diet.

Re: Snacks
Well, meat/protein should comprise only 30% of your daily calories on the diet. The majority of your calories should come from fat and the minority from carbs---vegetables primarily.Originally posted by xxxpinkladyxxxI'm looking forward to going back on this diet because I lost 8lbs in 1 week last time but I just couldn't stick with it because I just got so sick of meat. Lots of people make the mistake of eating "alot" of meat, without realizing that excess protein is converted to sugar by their bodies and excessive sugar is converted to glycogen and fat.

Re: Snacks
Similar to what Megs said...did you eat all the veggies you were allowed? Lots of people get bored because they don't eat their veggies. You are allowed to eat them, so eat them. You're not going to go for the rest of your life only eating meat, right?
A lot of people think you gain more weight if you go off this plan than any other, but I don't see why that would be. If you lose weight at Weight Watchers and then go eat a whole cake (um.....speaking from personal experience here....how embarrassing) then you are going to put the weight back on. It's all about learning healthy habits and sticking with them. But that's just my experience.Female, 46yrs, 5'3"

Re: Snacks
I cant help wondering what amount of weight you might have lost without the wine?!?Originally posted by xxxpinkladyxxxCan you drink white wine on the Atkins diet? I know you should avoid sugary stuff but when I did it for a week, I was drinking plenty of wine but still lost 8lbs.
If you reread your DANDR you will see that alcohol is reintroduced on the relevant OWL level/rung, after you have tested how your body copes with more veggies, dairy, nuts/seeds, fruit.
So no wine on induction, OK?
One thing that might make you not so keen on including it is thAT YOUR BODY WILL PREFER TO USE THE ALCOHOL AS FUEL INSTEAD OF THE FAT/PROTEIN/CARBS YOU ARE EATING SO WILL AFFECT YOUR weightloss!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Snacks
Yup! Steer clear of alcohol!! It can stall me for up to 2 weeks! Obviously everyone is different but alcohol is bad for your body in many ways and I feel should only be consumed on special occassions.
I hope things are better for you this time around, check out the Food threads and get some recipe ideas so you wont get bored of meat!
And as for snacks....I dont snack on Atkins. My body is fine with 3 meals a day and 3 litres of water a day. I feel that snacking was something that I did when I wasnt on Atkins and I thought my body was hungry when really, I was just bored or eating it cos it was there!

Re: Snacks
I don't snack much either. For breakfast, you could try mushrooms, asparagus, cheese, minute steak. It doesn't have to be a breakfast food, as everyone has pointed out. I sometimes have smoked salmon!Odille
