Carnie Wilson saying that people over 400 pounds won't keep it off without gastric bypass surgery. I am sorry that she couldn't, but her presence on the show shows that even WLS is no magic cure. It still requires someone to relearn how to eat and take cues from their body. It's not my place to degrade those who have WLS as a means to regain control and or lose weight, but it is certainly not hers to imply that I am destined to put it on because I didn't get cut. Can you tell I so love being told that I am a ticking time bomb waiting to put all the pounds back on because I didn't do it right? You gotta love experts.

yes... So true! Oh wait. I am sorry I thought it was opposite day.
I love how people become "experts". Just goes to show that thier is people out there that have no idea what they are talking about regardless of school.
These people are just as bad as people who claim to be MCSE's but don't know squat about computers.Mouse? I don't need no stinkin mouse!

Re: More Celebrity Fit Club frustration
I saw a show about gastric surgery a few months ago, I believe it was on the Health Channel. Some of the doctors who've performed the gastric surgery were saying that it is not uncommon for the patients who receive this surgery to gain some of their weight back. In fact, they had spoken of a few cases where patients have gained all their weight back. I didn't see the "Carnie" show all of you are taking about, but does she really think that limiting the size of ones stomach is a cure for food addiction? I don't know about anyone else here, but if I had that surgery I'm sure I would lose a lot of weight for the first couple of years. Then I would start indulging on pastry, overeat and gain the weight back. I'm not an expert, but from what I've heard ones stomach can still expand even though they've had the surgery. I wonder if she has true control over her food addiction yet and also wonder if she realizes that she too can gain her weight back.

Re: More Celebrity Fit Club frustration
There are two people in my building at work who've had the surgery in the last 2 or 3 years. They looked great for several months and now both of them look like they are slowly but steadily gaining weight.
The stomach does eventually stretch back to a more normal size. My ex had 2/3 of his removed several years ago, and he went from not being able to eat an orange because he was so full to eating normal meals again. I'm sure something similar happens after the gastric bypass surgeries.

Re: More Celebrity Fit Club frustration
Yes, I was shocked when she attacked the doctor for his remark. I didn't take it at all that he was insulting those who had GBS. I only understood what he meant by the fact that so many people who are overweight think that instead of learning new life-styles, they assume they can get the GBS surgery and be thin forever. They don't know the struggle behind the surgery, the risk the people take to undergo the surgery and then since they also didn't relearn new eating habits, many of them regain the weight. I understood what he was saying. She took it all wrong.
Everyone on the show last night was upset. I'm so thankful that the people here work together and try to understand each other's issues and help them work through them instead of using insults. We are very fortunate that we have a place like the ADBB for support and motivation.Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Re: More Celebrity Fit Club frustration
I saw that episode as well. I think Carnie let her personal emotions get the best of her. She admitted that the reason why she is having a hard time losing her assigned weight loss is because when she fixes her child's plate she takes a bite here and there. I felt sorry for Bone Crusher because he is doing so well with his weight loss and exercise. He only has a few more pounds and he will break the most weight lost on the show record and he has 3 more weigh ins. He is the heaviest on the show and has such a great attitude toward his committment of losing the weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I hate that she was offensive toward him because the doctor said something she did not like. I can't believe she said that most people who lose weight without the procedure will gain it back. Wake up Carnie you had the surgery and you are on the show because you are gaining it back! I do believe that how you lose weight is an individual choice. Your choice may be surgery, diet and exercise or what ever. Learning a new way of eating and a new way of life is a must no matter what route you take.
By the way Kent you look great!!!

I haven't seen the show ya'll are talking about - but my heart goes out to Carnie. Its hard enough when we re gain the weight we've worked so hard to release - but that poor woman is in the public eye. People watching her every move - waiting to judge her - it would be hard on anyone, I can't imagine being someone in the spot light.
's to Carnie.

Ladie Hawk I agree. I really like Carnie its just her statement was not fair especially when it was directed toward one of the other people on the show and offended lots of other people who have worked very hard to lose weight. I am sure her journey has been hard as well. I know I have said dumb things when I acted on emotions, however her comment was not fair.Success doesn't come to you... you have to go to it!

Re: More Celebrity Fit Club frustration
i remember when i used to be big, i talked about getting Gastric Bypass Surgery at the age of 21. i look back at it and think what an idiot i was for trying to go that route. with atkins i saved thousands of dollars just eating low carb food that was avaliable. i miss that show, no tv in Iraq where i'm at. we do have computer servers with lots of tv shows and movies so hopefully they add the vh1 series. i feel much better about myself because i lost weight and i didn't have to go the easy route by opting for surgery. hard work pays off.23 y/o male 5ft 7in 15 inch neck 30.5 inch waist

Ya'll it's TV, it's entertainment, it's SCRIPTED STUFF...Producers and Directors are telling these people to ACT and mix it up and create chaos...You cannot trust this stuff, period.
Reality TV is just not reality TV, once that stuff made it big time, they tinker with the people off camera, it's all devised purely for our entertainment...Carrie Wison is an Actress/Singer....74 8/1/06

Re: More Celebrity Fit Club frustration
I don't believe it is scripted, it's a personal weightloss journey for these folks. Anyway, what happened was that the Dr. said that NO ONE needs GBS, and Carnie became upset by this statement. That is what the Dr. said, and he insulted Carnie first. Granted, she should have NOT insulted Bone, but she is emotional.
