  • Help! I'm Bruising

I am in the process of re-reading DANDR It will be a month on Friday that I've been on the program. I seem to remember reading something in the book previously (a few years ago) about bruising easily. What vitamins am I lacking? I am bruising very easily since I've been doing Atkins, and I can't seem to find the part of the book that addresses it. Maybe I'm not to that part yet, can someone please help?

I bruise easily and there's nothing wrong with me. If you're not taking Iron, you might want to try that since you can bruise easily from anemia (your dr. would be able to tell you if you are). You are taking daily multi-vitamins, right?

Whoa, I didn't know DANDR said anything about that! I thought I was just being clumsy as usual. I have 4 REALLY bad bruises on my belly and legs that I have no idea where they came from. My husband saw them yesterday and was shocked, I didn't even know they were there! If anyone knows about this PLEASE let us know!!!

        Re: Help! I'm Bruising

I know I've read somewhere about the bruising before....maybe not in DANDR, being that I haven't found it yet, but that's where I thought it was. I definately did not bruise easily before. This is something that happens on Atkins for me. It happened a few years back, and yes I have no idea where my bruises came from either. I am definately deficient in something, so I hope someone can help us who are looking fabulous due to Atkins, but black and blue.

I read a long time ago that bruising easily is a Vit C deficiency. If you are not taking a supplement, I'd start at 1,000 mg per day of Vit C.

Try that for a full bottle and then see if there is any difference.

Kkat, you beat me to it. This is what I recommend. TAKE YOUR MULTI!!!! This is REQUIRED. Take more Vitamin C since you need it. It is cheap, so that's a plus. Also, I just heard that extra C in your diet will help with stress!

                Re: Help! I'm Bruising

I have bruised easily all my life. The Dr. once told me that vitamin K will help which you can only get by eating green leafy vegetables. The darker green the better.

before you go messing with your vits and minerals if this bruising is a new to you symptom see your doc and find out if you are ill and it is a coincidense that you are also on Atkins and what you are defiecent in before you supplement yourself into trouble.

Very much agreed with 2big! There will always be coincidences that make you think things. I am not thinking much about my bruising because I probably did bust my gut on something haha, but really, Vitamins in high doses can REALLY mess you up...def check with Doctor first!

                        Re: Help! I'm Bruising

I bruise more easily since being on Atkins. I had my doctor run a ton of tests and everything was perfect. As for suggestion of eating more dark green veggies, I know I eat alot of these, so that hasn't helped me. I take a multi without iron, calcium, Oil of Oregano, Omega 3 Oil, and Apple cider vinegar pills daily. I'm wondering if I'm brusing easier because of the fat loss. Maybe when I bump myself there is less fat protecting the bone, therefore, I am bruising easier. Just something to consider.

                          Re: Help! I'm Bruising

Here's an excerpt I found here on the forums about Vit C (I will also post the link so you can read the whole thread):

The deficiency disease of inadequate vitamin C is scurvy, and it symptoms include bleeding gums and easy bruising. Collagen is a 'ground substance' between our cells, sort of a cement. Vitamin C is vital to maintain these collagen tissues, which are also principal components of tendons, ligamints, skin, bone, teeth, cartilage, ntervertebral discs, cornea, eye lens, and heart valves as well.

Here's the link to this thread: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2035

Hope you find a solution soon!

I think this explains things pretty well - http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C458613.html#G595 and yes, Momtofour, apparently it could be due to fat loss, it's not bruising bones, so much as the fat was protecting the vessels better...
