  • ALERT: Throw away your BAGGED SPINACH immediately!

The FDA has just made an annoucement that an E. coli bacteria outbreak on bagged spinach is making people sick all over the United States. It killed 1 person. Even a 17 year old is extremely ill (so it doesn't matter how good your immune system is). Don't wash it, throw it out!!! Here's the article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060915/...ainted_spinach

Also, my bagged salad includes spinach. Its got to go too!

Cook it, then, if you bought it - it destroys the organisms.

True, it states, "Thorough cooking kills the bacterium." I recommend only doing this if you have a dishwasher though. You'll need heat to kill the bacteria that might get on your pan. Oh, you better not get it on your counter either. Heck, I'd just throw it out so it won't spread on anything!

I'm not giving up that easy! My pan will get just as hot as what's in it, plus I've got antibacterial wipes and lysol, not to mention a few shots of chaser to drown any of the little suckers that think they can make it to my gut, where they'd probably die anyway! I refuse to give in to media scares... they did this with DOLE bag salad 2 years ago, & the hype is still going around. My homegrown veggies hold a bigger risk than this as I use barnyard gold as fertilizer - I've never gotten sick.

Sorry but this is going to gross everyone out. I ate "bagged" salad the other day and it had spinach...I guess that would explain why I had diahhrea . So yes, throw out your bagged spinach (unless cooking it).

no need to GOOGLE hun, if you get infected with E coli, you are going to know it!!!!! Chances are you will be too sick to get close enough to you pc to GOOGLE anything.

The young, elderly and compromised can suffer kidney failure if the bacteria infests bad enough. Otherwise healthy young adults will suffer severe cramping, diarrhea and vomiting.

Yeah. My MIL caught E-coli somehow last year. Wow. She went from looking perfectly healthy to being in the hospital looking like DEATH within HOURS.
Broke my heart to throw out my spinach this morning, but I did! :-(

Before throwing it out, did you check where it came from? Mine was Dole and came from Salinas, so I feel good about it.

That $2 or whatever I spent is not worth it. I know.

Wow slight over panic; not every leaf is coated in ecoli.

That said, why risk it for 2 bucks.
