  • Add more fat even if it's already very fatty?

Example: You have to grab a burger with no bun for a quick meal. It has a good amount of fat but more grams of protein. What do you do? Add even MORE fat? Thank you.

Each meal should have ratios of 65%fat-30%protein-5%carb in induction. A regular burger is 66%fat-34% protein according to fitday.com. So add some pepper strips or cucumbers on the side, not more fat.
What is it, a RACE? It's coming off, right????

I'm aware of the ration and that's why I was asking. The protein is higher than the fat in my example.

      PS
      Fitday is horrible.
I'm using #'s from the restaurants' website.

If you like you can, ie, put mayo on top of the cheese on the burger all with lettuce & tomato... then have a leaner entree with less fat for a different meal so the %'s are right for the whole day's consumption.

It's a little easier and a lot more variety than trying to make each meal %-perfect.

In that case, yes, I'd add cheese to balance out the fat/protein, and then some veggies for the carb %. But if you don't want any more on your burger, adding some ranch dip to the veggies would be an option too.

can you give us your numbers as fat is 9 cals a gram while protein is only 4 so a burger could still be right without any added fat. if your burger is extra lean you can add some cheese or have a high fat dressing or butter on your veggies and come out right for the meal.

Re: Add more fat even if it's already very fatty?

This is from the Wendy's website:

              Wendy's classic triple (I was VERY hungry ) w/out bun & ketchup

              Fat: 54g
              Protein: 65g
              Carb: 4g

So that's why I ask about adding fat to something already very fatty. I'd have to add an awful lot of mayo to pump up the fat enough to compensate...

Re: Add more fat even if it's already very fatty?

I thought we were going by percentage of calories from fat/protein/carbs not percentage of g of each of them... I get that this meal would then be:

                63.78% fat (54*9=486cal, 486/7.62(total calories being 762)=63.7
                34.12% protein (65*4=260cal, 260/7.62=34.12)
                2.01% carbs (4*4=16cal, 16/7.62=2.01)

Not everything is created equal, fat has 9cal/1g, protein and carbs only have 4cal/1g.

Well that makes me feel better. Thank you!

Honestly, what a pain though. Sometimes I'm surprised Atkins works. To do it "right" you have to be SO careful about everything that passes your lips. Sometimes it seems overwhelming.

Re: Add more fat even if it's already very fatty?

It's not that overwhelming, all it means is that if you're looking at grams, you should have roughly the same amt. of protein as fat... for example, for your burger, the ratios are practically right on. Personally, I don't look at everything that closely, you know basically what you should and shouldn't eat, and a lot of percentages are good, you're aiming for a 65/30/5, that doesn't mean that every day *has* to be exactly that or you're going to fail. You know?

Also - one of the reasons this WOE works is that it induces appetite supression, I know I couldn't eat that as a meal, I would be stuffed after eating one patty, at the most, if I was pushing it, two.

Very kind word's ma'am. And VERY ENCOURAGING. Thank you very much! My weight and inch loss has been encouraging thus far and I feel good but sometimes you just need that lil' extra bit of encouragement to remind yourself why you're giving up so much of what you love. Thanks!

Can't say I stick to the ratios very stringently. My fat is always higher than Dr A's recomendations... mainly because here in Italy it's olive oil with everything. At least it's a very healthy fat! So far so good though.

Some folk need higher fat then the 65% and some folk need less your appetite suppression, inches and scale losses wiull tell you if you got it right for you.

once you have been doing Atkins for a while you will just know what goes with what to get your fats high and your proteins and carbs right. it is like riding a bike very scarey at first and lots of falls if somebody isn't holding you up but one day it clicks and you are off.

I love olive oil. I swear I could drink it. Or douse myself in it and, uh, yeah...

I wish the whole appetite suppression thing would kick in for me. I've been doing this a month and only cheated once in the beginning (a cup of caffeinated coffee) but I can still eat most under the table. And the whole thing about not craving certain foods...well that hasn't happened either. I think it's just human nature. We want what we can't have. Can any Atkineer honestly say they never crave/miss sugar?
