  • bye to chocolate forever???

I have a quick question. after all the atkins phases and rungs,Is chocolate off limits even in the smallest of moderation like once a month? There is a certain brand of dark chocolate that I like but its so rich I cant eat but one square, or used to couldnt lol I dont even remember what it tastes like now.

I liked the health benefits of dark chocolate as well. If, a yr from now, I wanted to have a small square once a month or so, is that still a no-no?

I believe the cocoa bean is technically a legume But, cocoa powder in DANDR is classified as a spice. So may be used from the beginning, or anytime, along with other legal and rung appropriate ingredients.

Eventually, all foods are built back in...except sugar. I don't see sugar ever is legal. But of course, as you learn what carb load your body can handle, you will make those intelligent choices. I LOVE chocolate...and I have found chocolate covered strawberries with real dark chocolate acceptable with my CCCL and portion control (ie no cravings). YMMV. Some definitely should NEVER have it again.
What is it, a RACE? It's coming off, right????

You can get those same health benefits from other foods that are better for you, so that's no excuse. I am sure there are loads of low carb desserts that you can eat in the future that are chocolate, but I don't really know if eating straight chocolate with all that sugar is something you would want to eat once a month.

Plantations makes a 100% chocolate bar that is sugar-free. It's bitter, so one square is all I eat at time, but it's very chocolatey. I sometimes will make whipped cream with unsweetened cocoa powder ( a good brand like equal exchange) and splenda, which is like a kind of chocolate mousse. It's very satisfying, so i don't need much, and I also put it on strawberries sometimes.

if you can handle the self control that is needed for the choclate in the low carb recipes like the coca powder and cream then you can have it as an occasional treat. some iof use even at goal can't do portion control on choclate so it isn't eatten.
youe body will tell you if you can do choclate or notjust like all the other foods you will be trying in OWL.

You can find (at least here) up to 86% cocoa, but I've heard there is a 99 - 100% brand out there, somewhere. Obviously, 100% would be an unsweetened block of bakers chocolate, too, and you could use a few shavings of that in whipped cream.

I, too, am one of the types that can have one square of really dark (like the 86%) chocolate, and that's enough. It's not full of sugar, and satisfies the need (like once a month when hormones get out of wack).

Uhmmm.. so in re-reading DANDR the past 2 days, we can all turn to page 484 and look at the recipe entitled, "Chocolate Truffles". 'Nuff said.

I think that sentence should be tattooed on everyone's brain for two reasons:

                  1. Some of us have poor eating habits that contributed to our weight gain. If portion control/size was or is an issue with you, then you'll really need to be aware of the food(s) that can trigger eating over-eating episodes. Avoiding these foods or using these foods with caution will be your key to remaining in control of your eating habits and your waistline.

                  2. Treats are occasional, not everyday. If you're fat because you treated yourself daily or several times daily, it would be wise to adopt an eating habit more conducive to weight maintenance---so you don't have to go through the troubles of losing weight again.

Nope. I ate it every day, even on Induction. Who said chocolate has to have sugar?? The two don't go hand in hand. And you don't have to have chocolate with sugar alcohols either.

I used to mix Splenda and unsweet cocoa together (blend well), then mix into heavy cream. I'd shake it up real good and freeze it. Ice cream. EVERY SINGLE DAY. 1/2 to 3/4 cup for dessert every day. You can do the same with cream cheese (in the fridge) and make mousse.

I will never go without chocolate.

OK I typed this after I read 2big and Not2late's replies. They are right obviously, and I am NOT discrediting what they said at all. All I can say is I did eat it daily and still lost, but that doesn't make it the best choice.
