first off the diuretic effect of the protein causes you to flush a lot of your watersoluble electrolytes out and if you don't replace them you can get too low blood pressure so adding protein shakes isn't the thing to do. What did y9our blood work show?

I'd suggest since you are in school you do a little reading and learn about the Atkins plan as it is high fat 65% of your cals from fats 30% from proteins and then the limited carb intaske f induction under 20 net grams.

hey Beediddy, I think the questions that should have been asked are things like what are you eating, how much are you drinking, etc? When I was in school I would take things like string cheese as a snack, or eat something fast in-between classes.

Dr. A said that if you are having these troubles, you need to up your veggies to slow down that water loss. You need to make sure you are taking your vitamins. Doctors tend to overreact when this happens (and I'll admit this looks bad for Atkins), however, you MUST do what Doctor A. said to do. Please read the book, I have a feeling you have not, since you are on Induction not Introduction.

          Please go buy DANDR.

If you feel you must get some extra protein in your diet due to your exercise or weight lifting, I recommend Isopure Zero Carb protein powder. It is more expensive, but is worth it. You definitely mix it with water and is NOT a meal replacement shake. Keep in mind unused protein can be converted to glucose, so overdoing it is defintely not recommended.

Please don't be offended by what I said. You typed "introduction", which made me think that you meant, well, "introduction". I wasn't poking fun of your spelling, but I am a person that likes to read a nicely typed message, but that's beside the point.

BTW, we are "supporting members" not specifically because we support others in the Atkins journey, we do, but that is not what it means. If you donate money to the site, or give of your time by publishing the newsletter, or other things, you earn this title.

We are instructing you to read the book, due to some of the things you have said. They elude to you possibly not reading the book (DANDR 2002). We are here to help, but we aren't always going to pat you on the back for everything you do, not to be mean, but to guide you to the kind of success we have experienced.

Welcome to the board, you will find lots of support and info here.

Re: low carb high protein shake

welcome to the i'm on the spelling police's 10 most wanted list LOL I think I definitely top their list hands down.

since you didn't know about the low blood pressure issues from Atkins which Dr Atkins explains in DANDR nor about the excess protein turning to sugar which he again mentions in DANDR it was natural to tell you to study your DANDR.

you didn't answer the question about what your blood tests revealed about your electrolytes when you passed out. if you are low you could pass out again and it is more then just taking a vitamin that your mother would have you swallow to get them back up to normal. Since your doctor was there ask her about any supplements you need until you move to OWl and add back even more of those yummy and healthy low glycemic veggies.

                  happy low carbing

i did get offended, i thought you guys were being mean to me. i guess support can mean tough love. ive read that book 2 times, you know when you have tried everything to lose weight and nothing seem to work, and you find something that starts moving the pds off.and then have to stop in the middle of it well it makes you scramble for (what can i do now?). even if you read the answer a million times, sometimes getting someone advice just make me feel better. my blood work showed i had a kidney infection i think thats were the headaches were coming from.. and my doc said i was pre diabetic put me on Gluophage 1000 in the morning 1000 at night... so forgive me for asking silly questions and being rude, i just wont to feel better.

Re: low carb high protein shake

Whoa, hang on there! Please don't be offended! We are here to help. You DID NOT ask silly questions, nor were you rude. What you experienced had something to do with Atkins and now we know, something to do with a kidney infection. I am surprised you got a kidney infection while drinking tons of water. Maybe one of our nurses will come in and help with that one.

Also, the Glucophage, hmm. Maybe the nurses can help with that. Anyway, you are doing the right thing by doing Atkins if you are headed toward diabetes. So many diabetics have kissed their meds good-bye while on Atkins. Did you know that a low carb diet used to be prescribed to diabetics once upon a time?

Anyway, I am sorry if you are most upset with me. Please stick around, we can help you. BTW, I experienced weekly (sometimes daily) bouts of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) before doing Atkins, which is a what pre-diabetics sometimes get. After just a few days of Induction, I never experienced it again. And it never came back while on Atkins. If I went off, it came back. Good luck to you, and I hope you feel better soon!

I'm so confused, I was just asking how much you were drinking meaning whether it was too much for your body... I didn't say anything about vitamins, or whether you like or dislike meats and veggies, in fact, I gave a suggestion of a snack.

Re: low carb high protein shake

Kidney infection hope that is clearing up. With your inmune system inflamed your blood sugar can do strange for Atkins things which could have caused the issues with the blood sugar too. I'm surprized your doc medicated you based on one blood test. As you can read in wannabethin2s journal her doc told her she was prediabetic based on one blood test. she freaked out since it runs in her family and then the follow up restesting showed her to have normal blood sugar levels all be that one test and not be prediabetic.
you were showing prediabetic blood work on day 8 of your Atkins that is very strange result since your blood sugars should have been much lower. Of course if you werre eating your proteins too high that would also account ofr it as excess proteins are converted to sugar for storage in the human body

the glucophag will sensitize your cells to insulin more and help lower your insulin production even more so that should help your Atkins too. Some folk lose weight taking it without diet but others don't.
it can also make your digestive system a mess as a sideeffect so be careful until you know how you will react to it.

Dr Atkins uses the words too high to warn about eating too much protein but never gives a quantitavie number as a guideline. we old timers had the privilidge of calling his medical practice and asking about it to learn 30% of our total caloric intake was the limit for the protein levels but you could also anylize the menues in DANDR and figure it out. Our protein intake will sty the same all the way to goal but our fat intake will lower slightly as our carb intake rises.
