  • Where are the reporters now?

During the last mad-cow scare, we had a reporter---or at least someone claiming to be a reporter---post here on ADBB, asking how this would change our attitude towards our diet, because of course, Atkins is all about eating entire cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, sheep, and turkeys 3 times a day, plus snacks.

It's a pity that the thread is long gone, because I remember some ADBB members challenging that reporter to come back here and ask us the same question if there is anything amiss with vegetables, fruits, grains, and other foods we can eat during Atkins. The reporter accepted that challenge.

Well.....I see no reporter here asking us how the spinach contamination affects how we are doing our Atkins.

No doubt, that reporter and others are trolling the vegetarian boards.

Ohh. No locked threads today then? lol

I don't like bagged spinach anyway. They told us not to use any bagged spinach here in Canada too. I like it better in a bunch or else frozen. I find bagged salad is mushy and sandy and more trouble than it's worth to clean up and use. But I hope everyone who does use it heeded that warning. I'm sure they did. They were all too busy carving up their entire pigs and cows and such to take no nevermind about no spinach. hee hee

I personally am affected by the lack of spinach, I had to make substitutes at the grocery store and got lettuce that I usually dont eat. Spinach will be missed by me, but after having Salmanilia once from the tomato's at sheetz I will def pass on any other form of food posioning. hahah!

our stores all 3 large chain groceries have signs up saying because of the problems with getting spinach they will not be carrying it for a while even the fresh in a bunch stuff so it is out. There was a huge run on the frozen stuff too. glad I got some growing in my fall veggie box

I did my fall planting yesterday. So I know that my spinach supply is okay

            Re: frozen....

How "safe" would that be? From what I understand of the frozen food market, produce is picked, washed then "flash frozen". At times all this is done on or near the fields. So if the fresh stuff is affected, won't the frozen be affected too?

You know, I avoided bagged spinach for this very reason for the longest time (it even happened to me with my beloved romaine), but now they triple wash it and I have never, ever had a problem with dirt. Get the absolute freshest (farthest away expiration date) and you won't have the mushy problem either. I have lots of luck with Dole.

I didn't know they made canned spinach. Then again, I think canned veggies are horrid so who am I to comment.

I've never liked bagged salads really..I find they have a funny taste to them, and once opened don't last very long. My iceburg lettuce ones usually turns kinda slimy, I always have wodnered why...a head of lettuce lasts far longer. i also find a head of lettuce is much cheaper.

I like buying the whole vegetable too. I find they have a longer shelf life. But it's getting harder to buy them. At my markets there are refrigerated shelves filled with those bagged produce and fewer space devoted to the whole veggies. Another case for growing your own, I suppose.....

I'm a huge spinach eater. You wouldn't believe how many people called me out of concern. I heard about the problem before I even received the first call from a friend.

I thought it was so cool that people paid attention to my eating habits. Now, they all know that veggies are part of Atkins.

My one friend who eats a poor diet laughed because none of our friends called her out of concern. LOL
