  • Atkins bars

Hi everyone. I had a quick question about the Atkins bars. Are they ok once your induction is over? Thanks
BTW, 4 days and 4 lbs. I am drinking a ton of water though, but I am still excited. Can't feel the roll around my bra as much (that is how I measure )

It'll depend on the ingrediants and what rung of OWL you're on - if you move to OWL after the 2 weeks... a lot of people can't handle them very well, for some the bars stall them... for others (like me) the sugar alcohols cause major discomfort!

There are lots of discussions about this topic, I'm sure a quick search will give you some ideas...

      Re: Atkins bars

I myself dont agree with them at all. When i decided to do atkins I decided to give up super processed, frakenfoods and stuff like that. I mean the whole purpose of atkins is to break addictions to foods like that so I dont like the idea of eating a man made food that is only gonna either stall me, start more sugar cravings, or keep me dependent on all those "fake" foods. Plus the bars are such a gimick i think. For some ppl though they might really help in a pinch but, seems like it goes against what atkins is about. Just cause it has the name doesnt mean its a good idea IMO.

Some ppl im sure would disagree though.

Save your money that you might use on those bars and spend it on a new pair of shoes to celebrate your -4 pounds or even hold out for more when you reach your next minigoal.

            Re: Atkins bars

I ate one a day for about a year and still did very well. But now I never eat them. I think I'm better off having a piece of fruit.

If you need them I think they are a better choice than say a Pop-Tart or a candy bar. But just a little better.

So are the sugar free candy bars legal? I am obsessed with them and always have been! But excessive consumption can/will cause discomfort!

Your mileage will vary. Personally, I try to always avoid the sugar free stuff. With the high glyecemic index of maltitol (higher than pasta or orange juice!), which so many of them have, I figure you have to count all the carbs -- so what's the point? The few that do have low glycemic SAs (lactitol, mostly) cause, for me, at least, gastric distress, so they're not worth it, either.

The one frankenfood (other than Carb Countdown) that I will use, on a very rare occasion (such as when traveling by train), is the Atkins Shakes. They have no SAs, are pretty nutritious, vitamin wise, and quite filling.
