  • Goal Weight

I'm curious as to how everyone came up with their goal weight. You'll see in my sig line that I threw down 240, but I have no idea if this is a proper goal. Simply put, I would be thrilled with 240, not having weighed that in a very long time. I'm 330 now, but I'm also 6'6 and pretty beefy under the flab, so I have no real idea what I should end up weighing.

    Re: Goal Weight

I was like you, Kegerator, and plucked a goal weight out of nowhere because it looked good although I didnt really believe I would ever be that weight.

My initial goal weight was 140 pounds (being half of my start weight of 280 + pounds) but when I was approaching that within a few pounds I realised I still had fat that might go so lowered it to 130 pounds, which I am close to now. I seriously think it might go lower as I still have plenty of flab to lose but havent bothered to change it again and will probably call it goal when I reach it and move into maintenance eating.

Actually I am not really bothered about weight any more.

Odd to say that but having seen so many people posting that although they havent reached a former ideal weight yet they are already at their former ideal dress size I am more interested in having a trimmer less flabby body than needing to see a particular number on the scales.

But if any more pounds drop off I shan't be complaining!

      Re: Goal Weight

I just looked up on various websites what my ideal weight would be, I aimed for the middle of the range. But like Elizellen, weight isn't too much of a focal point anymore. Aside from having a lot of other things on my mind, gaining or losing a couple of pounds doesnt make too much of a difference to me now that I'm more comfortable in my own skin. So I guess I'm at goal in a way, because I just wanted to like myself, and I do now.

I get on the scale and weigh. Then I look in the mirror. Do I want to lose some more? Then my goal is what the scale said minus 1!

          Re: Goal Weight

For me goal weight is a challenge, the smaller I get, the more I want to lose! My orginal goal weight 3 years ago was 130 but the more I lost after I reached 130 the more I wanted to lose! I am pretty tall so less than 130 is too skinny but it didn't matter to me. Now that I have gained weight I realize that 130 is my perfect weight. I think you will know when you have hit you goal weight!

            ditto what steph said.
i searched sites and got the high/low, considered my age and what i was able to maintain in my 20's and 30's. i am okay at this goal, which like she said, is not so much about the weight anymore, it's my size. i am wearing 4's and i don't really look to be any smaller than that. if it happens, then fine and if not, i'll be happy maintaining this 120 to 125 weight at the age of 53.

              Re: Goal Weight

I picked mine because thats what I weighed the last time I felt sexy and beautiful. The last time I could go to the juniors section of the store and get young cool clothes to dress my age and feel and look young. I now dress like im 20 yrs older. I feel 20 yrs older. I wanna be able to enjoy my 20's.

              170 looked great on me.

Once i hit that though I think i will set a new goal. probably 140. Thats what my bmi says I should be about. Ive been there too and felt even better!

mine picked me. I was using those height weight frame size charts but after getting my body fat measured I was beyond healthy at 14.9 so I declared goal and stopped.

                    Re: Goal Weight

My goal weight is the weight I was when I was most happy with my body before. It's what I weighed when I was 16-17. I had so much fun with fashion and clothes at that weight before. At 25, I'm still the same height, so I think it's a realistic goal. Because I'm exercising now (unlike when I was 16-17), I expect that if I reach that weight on the scale, I might even be a size or two smaller than I was before. But who knows...

I know I will be quite HAPPY though, well before I hit goal. The lowest weight I've been as a adult is 170 when I was 19, and I was quite happy with things then.

So my goal was picked based on my history.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

My goal weight is the weight I was when I felt the best about my body. Seeing as the last time I was at my goal weight was when I was still in high school that number will most likely change.

                        Re: Goal Weight

My goal weight is determined by being in the middle of the chart for my height range and the fact that I lift weights and exercise now. I weighed 145/150 when I was 18-20 and was a size 12-14. I weigh 212 now and wear a size 16. Honestly, I think I would be happy being 12 again, but I realize I could be better and will try for an 8/10 which is what I think I will be when I get 160 while working out (when I was younger, I avoided gyms like the plague).

                          Re: Goal Weight

i didn't set a goal weight at first, my first intention was just to lose weight. as i started to lose weight and see the pounds fall off i decided on a weight that seemed healthy and attainable for my height without looking too skinny or anorexic while still maintaining a trim muscular body. so thats how i decided on 145lbs, i would settle for 150lbs but then that means i have less than 10lbs to lose and i like a good challenge.

                            Re: Goal Weight

I chose 135 because it sounds like such a lovely number. But a few weeks before I hit 135 I realized I had too much pudge left, so I dropped it to 130. I hit 135 a week ago, and when I hit 130 I will decide again.

Boyfriend and mom say I better not go any lower then 130, but the problem is that clothes hide ALOT, I have tons of belly pudge left over. I belly dance aggressively (over an hour a day to fast paced alternative music, celtic, techno, etc), and I can feel my muscles undernieth the sponge, but I want to SEE my six pack I've been working on, dangit. >.<

So my goal is a work in progress.
