Congratulations on the loss of a shelf. I have more of a fat apron problem myself.

I never heard that about the hump on the lower neck. I had that pre-Atkins. I am not diabetic, but my father is. I'm glad I got my weight under control.

G-Mom, mine is gone! Oh happy day. I still have a slight bulge but you cannot pinch it up at all. And it used to be so gross, I hated it and always tried to hide it with big loose overshirts (didn't work!). So nice to have physical touch and see results as well as the btter health we can feel inside.

I had never hear that either about the hump on the neck! I did have it before I started Atkins. I don't have diabetes, but I always worry about it because of how big I got and I have lost 50lbs but I am still big. 3 of my 4 gradparents are diabetic!

Type 2 Diabetes is such an epidemic and we can ALL prevent it with diet and exercise. Very good thing you are losing weight, eschli, since you would have most likely also developed it in the future.

Wow how did i miss this post??

I have one as well. One day I just turned around and there is was. Guess thats where my cupcakes are sitting. ON my dusty old butt shelf!

Its horrible cause when i wear a nice shirt thats kinda fitted, from the side, I have a hump above my butt! Looks like my but just shoots straight outward! Gross!

I have the muffin top as well, always had this. that skin on my tummy is so loose anf flabby that even with jeans that fit, when i bend I have the hang over. I hope I can get rid of these forever!!!!

Re: Bye, Bye Butt Shelf..yes laugh

Funny thread. And it brought something to mind, which I thought of the other day. All the weight I put on post-college went into the gut, or at least most of it. I've gotten used to a gut-shelf. I use it to push doors open when my hands are full, and even to lift things. How sad is that? I so want to say goodbye to that kind of help.

Loved reading both of your posts, Mother and Keg! As much as we women hate the look of that nasty butt shelf, sadly, your gut shelf is something that needs to go like yesterday, due to health concerns, Keg!

I fear for several of my male relatives who have the big gut because having it is so detrimental to their health. My grandpa died at 67 from a coronary and he looked like he was pregnant.

Yeah I remember the Oprah special they did on heart disease and it said women who carry their weight in the middle (apple shapes) are far more likely to get heart disease, that the pear shape is healthier. Uh-oh! Bad news for me!!! I have the oddest shape its allright there in the middle like a spare tire. small upperbody, small theighs and legs big belly and butt shelf!

Gotta get that under control right away! ESpecially since heart disease runs in my family.
