  • Sugar Free Pudding?

I noticed on the Atkins website's Induction Meal Plan, they mention "Low Carb Pudding".

Would I be ok eating Sugar Free Jell-O pudding? Maybe, 2-3 times a week?

Not quite sure if it's alright to do, because last time I did Atkins they never mentioned Pudding, but I do love it and it holds me through my "Sweet" cravings without shooting up my blood sugar and making me crave sweets.

    Thanks for your help!

Micky, how are you making the pudding? Milk is out, so it would have to be a lot of cream and you've got to keep that within limits. Also just because it's sugar free doesn't mean it's carb free.

We believe in STRICT induction. Cravings WILL subside, but not if you keep feeding your sweet tooth even with sugar free products. Please DO NOT make this junk. The Atkins website wants you to buy their products, Dr. Atkins would NOT allow SF pudding during Induction, so that's what you should follow.

Out of curiosity, at what rung did you guys start allowing SF pudding? I ask because someone mentioned making some whipped cream and throwing in a pkg of SF chocolate pudding = chocolate mousse (sp?)... I've been craving it ever since! :P

          Re: Sugar Free Pudding?

First you have to look at the ingredients to see if those ingredients are acceptable for your phase of Atkins. All too often, products like that contain starches (corn, rice, etc.) During Induction, you know what foods you may and may not eat because you can always check the Induction Acceptable Foods list. During OWL and Pre-Maintenance, you know what foods you can eat on your rung of the carb ladder. And on Maintenance phse, you know what you can and can't eat based on your experience from the weight loss phases.

Second, you have to look at the sweeteners used: do those sweeteners and the amounts used conform with this diet? Again, you know this information because it's spelled out in the Induction Acceptable Foods list.

Third you have to look at the carb count of the individual serving size. It's been awhile since I've read a box of Jello Pudding mix, but it was something like 1/8 of the package was "1 serving". So about 1/2 cup of the finished product would be a serving.

Fourthly, your mileage may vary in terms of how this kind of product affects your weight loss and affects your blood sugar.

              Re: Sugar Free Pudding?

jello s/f pudding definately has starches in it so stay away.

Check linda's site, she has induction friendly pudding and custard recipes:

              http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/dessert_recipes.html

though as G-mom said it's a good idea to try to stay away from sweets during induction to break the cravings.

                Re: Sugar Free Pudding?

I bought my daughter some of those sugar free pudding cups. After looking at the label and seeing they had sugar alcohol which would make the net carbs within reason I ate one. Bad idea. I was craving everything under the sun that night. Won't eat those again. I think it is best to make acceptable alternatives like was suggested above.

I've tried to find regular coca but have never bought it because they all seem to have carbs... is there a special kind you guys buy?

                    Re: Sugar Free Pudding?

It's the Jell-O sugar free pudding, and yes, it was 6 carbs in it.

I wasn;'t sure if I trusted it, because the Atkins induction on their new site is SO different from a couple years ago! It's confusing. Like, the Atkins friendly bread? I wouldn't do that on Induction!

                    Thank you, guys!

i use Fry's cocoa, but i'm not sure that it's available in the states, it has 2g carbs and 2g fibre. make sure you are using baking cocoa that has no sugar (not hot chocolate mix type cocoa) than just count the net carbs and add them in your totals.

I can't remember htough if cocoa is induction friendly, or considered a spice, or bean or nut? anyone know offhand?
