  • Difference between 2002 and 1970's version

I have already done my induction (clean) and am now on a more extended induction as I have a lot of weight to lose.
I have a copy of Atkin's diet revolution book from the 1970's. I've tried to find one of the newer ones but have had no luck around here. I could order one on-line, but wanted to ask first.

Do you think ther is a significant difference between the two books, and is it a difference someone could just explain or do I need to find a copy of the newer book?

I don't want to buy a new book only to find the only difference is the newer one allows a handful of nuts per day on extended induction.

Thank you for your help - I want to join this site and have seen the "strictly by the 2002 rules" message several times - so I suppose I really need to know what those rules are, and how the differ from the rules in the 1970's.

    Regards,
    Ailuran

      There's a HUGE difference.

1972 counted total carbohydrates. 2002 counts 'net carbs' (total carb - fiber grams).
1972 had slightly lower vegetable amounts. It also had different allowable vegetables for the first week of the Diet and additional veggies the 2nd week of the Diet. 2002 includes more vegetables during the 2 week Induction phase.

As 2Big said, Dr. Atkins organized the remainder of the Diet into the On-Going Weight Loss Phase and the Pre-Maintenance Phase. These 'phases' were in the original diet, but in the latter editions, they were formalized and more instructions on how to do them were included.

If you don't want to buy a book, you might want to see if your public library has a copy of it.

There's also a 1999 version, so look out for that one. It IS NOT the correct version either.
