                  OK.
I guess we can go with "to violate rules dishonesly"
Except, if honestly, someone is going to "cheat"
then it is not really a "cheat"
                  Is is?

I can't even follow what that means after the first quote which is really a bad phrase, not catchy at all.

Someone should really revise that book and give it a story line and stuff, make it more interesting, then more people would read it.

In the induction phase is one place Dr. Atkins states under the rules of induction # 5. He refers to eating anything that is not on the list of acceptable foods as the "kiss of failure".
He says this in other places too if I remember correctly, I will have to look for those.

Re: I hate to stir this up but it's bugging me

This is not meant to reignite the discussion, but I thought it was something that needed to be answered. Did Dr. Atkins ever use the term cheat?
Where did he use the word "cheat'?
Dr. Atkins used the "term" cheat 15 times in DANDR. Here are a few samples:

If you're bound and determined to cheat, at least do so in the least harmful way. If a fruit will satisfy your craving for something sweet, it's better than a cookie or candy bar. (p.177)
                              Don't Go There!
Here are some mind traps you must learn to avoid:
                              • Using food as an emotional comfort.
                              • Quitting the program altogether if you've cheated.
                              • Eating less than three times a day.
                              • Doing what other people want instead of what's right for you.
                              • Being afraid to ask family and friends-or even a psychotherapist-for support.(p.17
                              Time to Be Strict
Anyone who is committed to doing Atkins properly needs to follow these rules to the letter. Remember that it takes two to three days for the body to switch to fat burning. One cheat and you're back to a glucose-burning metabolism. You can lose the effects of two or three days of fat burning with one cheat.(p.147)
Discouraging as a plateau may be, you can't let it beat you. It may comfort you to hear that some individuals lose weight in a pattern of plateauing for a month, then taking a dip of four or more pounds, plateauing again and so on. If you get discouraged and start to cheat before seeing results, you will sabotage your success.(p.124)
In the end, we are each author's of our own success and weightloss journeys. I would prefer if everyone's was straight and swiftly to goal, but some people might take side trips from the path. That's obviously their choice, but from a recommendation standpoint, if I was trying to tell someone how to get to LA from New York. I wouldn't recommend they see Big Ben and Tower of London first. Yes, you could go to London or Miami first, but personally, I wanted to know I was at least heading in the right direction each day.

Re: I hate to stir this up but it's bugging me

I do not like the term "Cheat" and I do not like the "Cheat Police" ..not that that matters ...no one asked me to begin with and this is NOT my board....

Kent I dont care if Dr Atkins said it 39485 times ..it is still a negative self defeating term...

I feel bad that people are lambasted ..and I was amongst the ones who lambasted Forest...

I hate to say this ..but I use the DANDR as a guide NOT a bible and even thought I think he was a brilliant man from what I read he was not the nicest person on the planet ....

there are quite a few things I disagree with him about .... for instance I drink real coffee and never stopped....and I ate more veggies from the very start ...because to me ..hairloss is not "normal" or a good sign of people getting healthier ....

in the big picture however ..I am very much an advocate of both the eating plan and this board...

I feel that this is a plan that takes time to learn ..you can not overnight change your entire way of thinking about food...

looking at food as something wonderful to enjoy was a far greater way to make me get this and stick with it ....

but that is just me and me thinking again ....
