  • Breath Mints?

Hey all of you at the big board! I use to pop breath mints before walking into work, or in meetings, or at schools, to cover coffee breath, or lunch breath..
What do people do that is legal to cover their breath during the day? Can "sugar free" products be used? In a moderate way???
What's the scoop on Coke zero too???
Just wondering...I do neither, but am wondering what the scoop is...
Hit me with Atkin's facts...I need my long term leaders to help me out here...

    Re: Breath Mints?

Opinions are divided on this. Personally, I wouldn't go down the "sugar free mints route" as for me, its sweet stuff that can easily bring back the taste for sweet foods that you have tried so hard to break the addiction to.

As I said, thats an opinion that is divided. Some people think its ok. But for me I have never let myself go down that route.

Re coke zero. What is it sweetend with? is it aspartame? If so, I would stay off that too as its a known staller. If its sweetened with Splenda then thats ok, just as long as you count the splenda in your daily allocation of splenda. And that you don't count the coke as normal drink and that you have your full allocation of water also.

Thanks Richt, I really appreciate it...I know the masses are split over this, and I have not allowed a drop of these things into my world, but I have allowed my 15 yr old a zero coke at lunch, and she is having a breath mint for bad breath...its been 2 months, and I have lost 28 lbs and she is struggling with getting to that 15 pound drop...It could be my lack of understanding, but I expected her resistence to weight loss to be low, consdering she has never dieted before...
I suspected that these chemicals are not helping, and I have to check her "amounts" of food, since I know what she is eating...I weigh her everymorning and put my hand over the numbers...so she does not know the number...Her clothes are looser but the numbers rarely move... She exercises moderately 5 times a week. I'm just trying to make sure I am leading her correctly and I am trying to check things, behind her back now, before I address things in front of her...Nothing wrong with feeling thinner and having loose clothes, it's probably burning fat, replaced by lean muscle.

Can your daughter take a travel size toothbrush and toothpaste in her bag to school? I hate breath mints and I am beginning to hate gum too because although they say they freshen your breath, they never quite seem to. Toothbrushing is the only way I feel fresh.

Regarding the Coke Zero, I have to admit although I like Diet Coke w/Splenda, my very fave pop is Coke Zero. However, it lasts me A LONG TIME because I will only have one every few days. My suggestion is to have your daughter cut down. Every other day, take water. For my little son, I pack a a half frozen bottle of Aquafina with just a bit of water, so he has ice cold water for lunch. This really helps hit the spot.

I use breath strips. Usually just half a strip works pretty good too. I have to work in close confines with people sometimes and I don't want to be chomping gum (not that I really chomp it, but you know......mom always said it was unladylike). It's not sweet so it doesn't remind me of candy.

                  Re: Breath Mints?

Hi Jess ~ I use Binaca spray and that works pretty well. You can find it in your grocery store in the oral hygiene aisle. It does, however, have saccharin in it.

Here's something that puts the "fun" back in "functional" and is a sugar free & artificial sugar free delight... it is from Bath & Body works and it is called Mentha Lip Shine. Here is a link: http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/prod...entPage=family

You get fresh breath & shiny lips all in one. You put the lip gloss on and breathe in and the peppermint oils freshen your breath.

                  So there you have it...

As for the Coke Zeros... i agree with G-Mom ~ have Caitlin cut back on those. I know from personal experience that any coke products stall me big time. That doesn't happen to everyone ~ but it does happen to me, so who knows. Good luck!!! I hope some of these things help...

Saccharin is one of the allowed sweeteners on Atkins
the following are allowed: sucralose (marketed as Splenda), saccharin, cyclamate and acesulfame-K
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
