Please someone help me to stop binging. I dont know why I do it. I've been on induction for a month and 1/2 now. But the last 2 weeks I've been binging. First it was just peanuts and cheese I would eat a ton of, but then it moved to actual sweets which I shouldnt be eating at all. I dont know why I get the way I do with these binges. I have done Atkins many times before and always end up getting off of it due to binging and it taking me months to get back into the groove of things. I am looking to change my lifestyle but never seem to reach that point. I have gained back a good 8 to 10 lbs from the binge time... I have another 15 to 20 lbs to lose before I want to be on OWL. I feel like I will not make it there the way things are going now. Please anyone throw some pointers my way!

Maybe going to OWL is what you need. I know you said you wanted to lose another 15 to 20 pounds before moving on, but maybe by having more food choices you won't feel so restricted and feel the urge to binge.

Peanuts are not part of induction. That could be causing your problems. You need to work very slowly up the Atkins rungs to see what food causes you problems. If a food causes cravings then you know to omit that food. You can always test it again later and see if you still react to that food. My guess is that peanuts are causing your cravings and that is resulting in binging. You can do this!

If you have troube finding a copy, they are sold rather cheaply at Amazon these days. You should find a link to Amazon at the bottom of ADBB.

OOPS HIT A KEY WRONG AND IT PRITNED IT TOO SONN sorry
read it cover to cover so you will understand why Dr Atkins made changes in his porogram to better help you get to your desired goal.

then start a foos journal and list the 5W who what whne where why and how you feel before during and after eating. overeating like that is a responce by your brain to some triggering device it could be a food swinging your blood sugar like peanuts or it could be emotional and you need to find it look for patterns. I had both a person and 2 foods as triggerring devices for me.

then creat your emeregency Atkins Kit have youor pics your goals and reasons for wanting to be the smaller healthier you , some paper to write why you got to have ths binge foods so you can see what is going on and think about it, 500 words should do, bottled water so you can sip it while you are thinking and finally if you get this far and ar4e still needing to eat some atkins acceptable snacks from the induction legal foods and/or your OWL rungs.

keep those handy and use them as needed. you know you want to be the smaller healthier you so ask yorself between each nut and each bite of cheese is this helping me get what I want or hurting me. you will slow down and stop and each time it occurs it will get easier to stop and the distance between binges will get longer and longer.

              Dear Rugirlie,

I have been where you are, and understand how disappointed you feel. All I can tell you is you must not look at this slip up as, the end of the world. Just get right back on track, you will feel much better if you do. I know when I messed up the last time I foolishly stayed off Atkins, and the board. I wound up gaining much more than before. the only way to feel better if I slip up is to try again, even if it is one of many. Eventually it will stick. Remember there is alway the next meal to start all over again. Calm down and don't be angry just start again. Pru

I'm with Christine... maybe OWL would help you. The extra food choices might make things easier.

I bet it's something your eating also. Post what you ate yesterday so the folks can take a look

                    Re: Binging

I'm curious if the binges started only when you started doing Atkins or if this has been a pattern for a long time?

If it's the latter, and this is if all previous suggestions don't work and the binging is causing stress and impairment in your life, there is a recently acknowledged eating disorder called Binge-Eating Disorder. In all likelihood you don't have the disorder, it's just that I am a Psych student, so of course the possibility popped up in my head

Good luck, I hope some of the suggestions help you out

                      Re: Binging

I am with the others on this. I bet it is something you are eating that is triggering this. OR, something you are feeling before it starts.
2big is right on. Start a journal ASAP. Write down everything that goes in your mouth and why. There has got to be a key here as to why this is happening. Could be the smallest thing throwing you off.
I drank Diet Pepsi for years with no idea it was keeping me in a constant state of "what can I eat next".
                      Give the journal a try.
