  • The Must Have Kitchen Item!

My mom loves kitchen gadgets..she collects them and never uses them and then pawns them off on my sister and I so we can never use them too....well yesterday she finally gave me one that is totally worth the counter space... a counter top rotissere! It's awesome, I roasted a whole turkey breast in it in two hours and it's oh my delicious...it's the must have low carb kitchen appliance, I plan to keep it rotisser-ing, chickens, roasts, fish, you name it you can put it in there--and it has a tray that sits on top that sautees veggies...takes so much out of my planning and figuring out how to make meat yummier...I highly reccommend one for all atkineers!

I have one donated to me as well, but I have been too lazy yet to learn how to use it. Thanks for posting this and convincing me that I need to get off my duff and try it. What do you season the chickens or the skin of the turkey with? Any special spice?

My mother in law has one and uses it for everythign! her's is big enough to cook 2 chickens in (it's the infomercial Ronco one). I don't have enough room for one but if I did I'd definately invest in one.

        Great suggestion!

Kent, all I did to the turkey was rub it with salt and pepper and it turned out so good, I'll never bake one again, it tasted like the rotissere chickens you can get at sams or walmart, I guess because it was spinning the juices stay on the turkey and it bastes itself....mine is also the size big enough for two chickens and I look forward to doing those, today I'm taking out a big sirloin and doing kabobs! it's really a great gadget!

Re: The Must Have Kitchen Item!

We bought a small George Foreman rotisserie on clearance. It's the best $38.00 I've spent in a while.

We actually used it tonight for dinner. I made a whole chicken in it. I love using my herbs from the garden in it. Underneath the breast skin I put on either side a pat of butter and one whole sage leaf. Inside I make a ball of herbs: rosemary, lemon balm, lemon thyme, garlic and onion chives. I squeeze one 1/2 a lemon in in the cavity then stuff the ball of herbs in it and then stuff the squeezed lemon half inside. Truss it up ..sprinkle the outside with paprika and put it on the spit. Gosh it is good!!! And the entire house smells fantastic. The dripping from the small collector pan are fantastic also!

Edited: To change pictures. I had put up the Jr. model, we bought the Baby one.

How hard are these to clean? Dishwasher able?

Mines not too bad to clean. It's got the bottom tray that collects the drippings. That is completely removeable. Then a chrome sheet (not sure what to call it) it slides down the back side. That removes to be washed. And then whatever you use to cook with. The spit or the baskets. I'm not sure about dishwasher safe but I would assume so. I am the dishwasher..lol

I think the hardest part for me to clean is the glass cover. It only opens from the front (slides upwards) you have to reach inside to clean the glass and there's a couple inches at the top I never can get. It never really gets dirty though. But I do like to wipe it down.

mine is really easy to clean too, the panel slides right out and the bottom is non-stick stuff...takes me about 10 min total and it's ready to roast again!

Oh, Weighless, I have had that exact same rotisserie for a couple of years and it is great!!

I often use the little basket thing for smaller pieces of chicken too!
