Changing sense of smell??

Hi everyone-

I'm just curious, has anyone else noticed a changing sense of smell after about a month on atkins? I don't know if it's me or what. I'll give an example after I hear what other people have to say. :P

Well, okay, example: All of a sudden, my boyfriend smells kind of like mothballs to me. He never ever ever smelled like that before, and it doesn't seem to matter what he is wearing. it's kind of disconcerting, because well, mothballs don't smell very good! He hasn't changed the way he is eating, showering, brushing his teeth, or anything like that! It's really me that's changed the way I'm eating. So, I don't know what it is, but it's starting to freak me out!

Uhmmm.. my BF still smells really good to me. Perhaps it's the wrong BF? They say that women and men are attracted to others who smell (not deodorant or anything) a specific way. Or maybe you were too close to an attic or something...

hee! well that's why i didn't want to post the example, just see what other people said. He never smelled bad to me before, that's the thing, and I still like him as much as I ever did. :P it's been going on for about a week now, which is why I thought it was maybe one of these weird atkins side effects. I dunno.

Oh... it's been like a week?! Any chance you're getting a cold or sniffles or anything? My sense of smell always gets funky if I'm getting sick or something.

well I know that sometimes things just smell weird to me... especially if I've had a cold.. I never thought that it could be Atkins doing it. lol. Sometimes my hubby gets this weird air smell, like onions... I say air because it's not his breath, it comes from deep inside lol. it's weird..

As far as being a side effect of Atkins, I've never heard of it, before. I do know, however, that any number of things -- such as disease, exposure to certain chemicals and solvents, sinus conditions, etc -- can temporarily alter the sense of smell. I wouldn't worry too much unless it persists for an extended period.

I have not noticed anything like that either...only time my sense of smell changed was when I quit smoking years ago! Sorry I cannot be more help!

I've had a rotten sinus infection for a month now, and everything smells weird. They're waiting to see if mine resolves without antibiotics because I get a ton of them and sometimes they do go away without antibiotics for me.


Have any sinus pain or pressure?
