Re: Poll: Controlled Cheats On Xmas Day

Thank you Kacey1. I've never thought it in that way before. And thats the way I do associate things. My other half wanted to go to the cinema the other night and I said no, because I knew that I would have to walk past the popcorn and sweetie section and see everyone stuffing their faces with it and wanting it too. I didnt want to put myself through that so I didnt want to go. I didnt think about that I was going to see a film and that was the important thing. I access all social situations with what food will be involved. If there will be food there that I cant have, then more than likely I wont go to that event. Sad arent I?!
Last night we went bowling, usually I wouldve said no but we went to a Harvester Restaurant before ( a grill type restaurant and I had a platter of chicken wings, ribs and salad) so I was full before we went. When we got there, alot of people were drining alcohol and eating burgers and fries but I was ok. My BF and his mate were driving so they couldnt drink so it made it abit easier for me to drink my water. I had a good time, even tho I lost all 3 rounds of bowling! I felt a little deprived but kinda glad I made it through the night.

DJFMF - I do agree with your way of doing things. I would rather follow my low carb plan and exercise my *** off at the gym all week and have 1 day off to do as I wished. When I have reached goal I may introduce a treat day or something.

Waterbabe - sorry if I've gone off the subject of your post xxx

I appear to be in the minority here, which is fine, but I will be eating whatever I feel like eating on both Thanksgiving and Christmas, and that will most certainly include traditional fare from our family table.

If you moved through the rungs of OWL you could have all of those things with the exception of the sugar toxic dessert WITHOUT it being a cheat.

Follow the plan as it says in the book and you don't have to "CHEAT".

I think this is the saddest, saddest part of the IGNORANCE of the Atkins plan. Unfortunately people think they have to 'cheat' in order to eat foods like potatoes and oranges!!

Yeah why waste a cheat on fruit and veg? 12 chocolate frosted chocolate donuts is the way to go!

Because I for one do not want to wake up the carb-junkie that lays asleep in my heart. I hope having just one potato or some fruit won't do that.

                Yayyyyyyy Helena!

Okay, so would you like to explore the possibility of moving through the rungs so that at the Holidays you don't HAVE to cheat?

I wish everyone on this board that is doing extended induction would at least consider this option rather than feel like they have to cheat to have higher carb, yet still legal in OWL foods! Far too often, people think they've "cheated" because they eat something that is higher rung and then fall into the trap "well, I ate _____, so I might as well eat the cake, donut, bread, etc."

I say all this because I KNOW. I HAVE DONE IT. I STILL SOMETIMES DO IT.

Is it just me or is the term "controlled cheat" an oxymoron? If your cheating, well, your not in control i wouldnt think. With all the acceptable rich delicious foods, I havent needed to cheat. I mean COME ON! I CAN HAVE PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE FOR THANKSGIVING!!!! Ahhhh, all is right with the world, lol. Re: Poll: Controlled Cheats On Xmas Day

I wrote this a long time ago.
                      The Vicious Cycle
In January, all the news is talking about is which DIET works. Well in my opinion, no DIET works, if it is just a DIET.

What works is when you decide to make it a permanent LIFETIME lifestyle change.

Of course, when I first started, this certainly was just a DIET to me... to get the dumb weight off and see if it would work.

Well not only did it work, it worked well. And I ate REAL FOOD, very often (sometimes as often as every 2 hours if hungry).

After seeing how well my body responded to this way of eating, then the mindset changed to 'this is my LIFE', not a dumb DIET.

Anything worth having is worth working for, for life.

The media doesn't talk about DIETs during pig out time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. All we get 'fed' during that time is all the crap we are 'supposed' to be pigging out on because it's the 'holidays'.

Then all of a sudden when it's January, it's DIET time. Only for the same foul cycle to be repeated next year.

We don't have to feed into that mess. I never will again. 2003 was my first year not ever feeding into it and it was the most amazing thing. To actually face a January being THIN. Then to repeat it again January 2004 and 2005 and be smaller than I ever have! I have not been this weight since around 6th grade.

In November and December, the BUZZWORDS (you know, the 'in' things to say):
*Have you finished your holiday baking yet?
                      *What all are you baking?

HUH???????? Who said anyone HAD to bake for the holidays??

In January and February, the BUZZWORDS:
*I need to lose some weight
                      *What DIET are you on?
*What GYM do you go to?

HUH? You weren't sayin that 2 months ago! Why put yourself through the drama?

                      In November and December:
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL family
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL friends
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL love
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL giving
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL peace
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL happiness

In November and December, FOOD DOES EQUAL FUEL

In January and February (till Valentines Day pig out time):
                      FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL punishment
FOOD DOES NOT EQUAL starving so I can get this weight off

ALL YEAR ROUND, food equals fuel.
                      ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD..................DRUMROLL PLEASE...

ALL YEAR ROUND, our low carb food fuel is delicious, satisfying, AND lets us lose weight or maintain, ALL YEAR ROUND, for life.

So if this is your first January facing the daunting task ahead (it is not daunting-- take mini steps, one day at a time), let it be the last January you do this to yourself. Let it be YEAR ROUND, including November and December.
Keep doing what you're doing & you'll keep getting what you're getting!!!

I also don't think that someone should rush up through the rungs so they can have a potato at Christmas; extended induction works for me and I plan to stay at this rung until I near goal. If I drop out of ketosis for a cheat it wont be for a potato thats for sure.

But if you cheat; you will most likely feel regret and misery straight after

I did the one time I cheated! It was a strong enough feel of misery / guilt to never make me do it again.

I'm finding it a little hard to believe that you all sit there in restaurants during people's birthdays and Christmas etc and don't have the slightest inclination to have some dessert to be part of the party.

If it is true that you all do, then I take great courage from that. Maybe I can do it too, and maybe in 9 weeks time, at Xmas, when I am 13 weeks cheat free (a quarter of a year!) instead of my present 26 days, I too will feel that it is simply not worth cheating because of all the misery, self-hate and guilt this will entail.

At the moment, I would be soooo, sooo ashamed to have to tell you folks that I have come off the wagon and am starting again, one day cheat-free, two days cheat free. It would feel like I was playing snakes and ladders, and had slid all the way down a snake! Then you have to throw a 6 to re-start, and I am not sure how long that would take me.

I have 26 cheat-free days to protect and to build on. I must keep reminding myself of that!
