And that's one statement, based on personal experience, that I can agree with 100%!

Oh, one more thing, I realize that it may be totally different in Montana, but I do know that in Virginia and DC any food is allowed, other than prepared foods, on EBT.

Well, her in Texas, our state allows people with food stamps to purchase pretty much anything at the grocery store, except, tobacco, alcohol, and deli. But, you and I know if someone is receiving $450- a month in food stamps and they have a family of 8 to feed, yes, they are going to buy stuff like a big ol woppin bag of potatoes or extra large bags of chips, tons of cheap pasta...but I do not blame them when they have to make that last for a whole month, what gets me is the people who abuse the system. If you are trying to work, feed your family, but are still having a hard time making ends meet, then sometimes you need the help and the government will penalize you for trying, but where I come from, many people do not work just so they can get the food stamps because then, the party is on and I literally mean party, almost every weekend.

So, therefore, since I have gotten off the subject, yes, education is a factor, but unless you are going to go to someone's home and buy their food for them chances are they will not buy the healthy stuff when the government is paying.

Now, as to bread and ethnic groups, I come from French immigrants and, even though we were not poor, I can assure you that bread had to be served at every meal -- my Father would, to this day, wonder what the person who cooked was thinking if it were omitted. Of course, it wasn't Wonder Bread, but it was bread!
I agree with Chris on this one, The bread my ethnic friends eat isn't white Wonder bread, but it is white bread: it's crusty rolls, bagettes, dinner rolls etc and they eat it with most meals. White bread is more than just the sliced wonder bread. Even homemade bread can be made with white flour.
