I did a little exercise during induction - walking rather than going to the local shop in the car, that type of thing, and basically I tried not to be so lazy! but since I've upped my exercise over the last couple of months, I can really see a difference!

I tried to exercise the first 2 weeks but couldn't get very far. My body wasn't use to the low carb intake and didn't know where to get fuel from so when I pushed myself I got nauseous, light headed, etc. After a week or so, this went totally away and now I'm training to walk a marathon. On 35 carbs a day.
By chance, I read a book by Stu Mittleman called "Slow Burn". He outlines the physiology of low carb eating and fat loss. He has run distances like 580 miles in 6 days, etc. He says since he quit all the carbs and started applying this strategy - he burns more fat, he has less injuries, and he can go longer and longer.
Now that I have read that book and understand more, I've realised that I don't have to be in a high aerobic zone to burn fat - and in fact, I'm better off going slower (lower aerobic zone) and longer and more fat will fall off of me....
Anyway - I'm not a scientist but it is working. I've lost 30 inches in 13 weeks. And I'm not killing myself either!
Persistence and initiative (as someone said earlier) are the key. A little, a little more, a little more.... And fat falls away....
P.S. IF you drink all you water too.
Hope that helps a little.

You know, on Atkins, this really is true. When I saw what is recommended for any diet plan (I don't know what org. recommended it), I thought, wow, this will surely discourage folks. I read that to lose weight, a person needs to exercise at least 60 minutes per day for 5 days per week. Well, most of us can't do that or won't.
I agree that a little exercise goes a long way on Atkins because when in ketosis, we don't have glucose stores to burn off first, like for those folks on other plans. So, we go directly into fat-burning. We get more out of our workouts than they do.
No Weigh Until Christmas Day!!! Happily Married American Atkineer!(translation, males, please NO PMs asking for my help, please ask the board for advice, thanks!) I guess the one deciding factor for me was body composition.
As I'm sure that you and nearly everybody has heard by now, a pound of body muscle needs its own calorie supply to survive and a pound of body fat doesn't. Therefore, if you build muscle (and we're not even necessarily talking big bodybuilder muscles here -- even nice lean muscles all over the body), then MAINTAINING your weight loss is going to be easier because your muscles are going to burn extra calories for you. To the surprise of all my friends and family, I starting exercising regularly for the first time in my life about 9 months ago, and I LOVE IT. Didn't love it for the first week or so, but I love it now. I haven't seen much of a difference on the scale between my periods of light exercise and my periods of vigorous exercise (some weeks i have more going on than in others), but I can tell when looking at how fast the inches fall off how much I've been exercising.
But being able to maintain, which is harder for people than losing the weight in the first place, that in itself is enough motivation to exercise.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
i noticed that as well about exercise when i started off... it sucked. but as the weight came off and with consistent exercise it got much easier and more enjoyable, i no longer dread working out because it makes me look good.

Currently losing weight on a modified low carb diet and vigorous exercise. Let the pain begin!
Well, you've got lots of replies here. I haven't read them all, so forgive me if I repeat.
From the some I did read, I gather you've been told you can lose without exercise. But, as Cleo pointed out, "Exercise is non-negotiable", so the sooner you exercise the better. It doesn't have to be a lot. Some is better than nothing. Take a walk around the block. Take stairs instead of the elevator. Make more than one trip if you have a bunch of things to be transported from one floor to another. There are lots of ways to incorporate exercise with draining your energy.
Besides the "Dr. Atkins said so" factor, exercise is awesome because it really determines where you lose weight. You may lose weight from random places like your feet (as I've read stories of), but with exercise you can target certain areas. Walking for your legs, crunches for your abs, ... arm things for your arms.
I've always done cardio (walking), and could never be without it. Honestly, I don't recall experiencing the lethargy I sometimes hear about when first starting out on Induction. Maybe this is because I was like a pointer dog, just elated about the weight loss - it was finally happening for me!
