  • What do you deem being successful?

In seeing this word today, i automatically applied my own definition of what "this time around lol" being successful in this lifestyle is and means to me. i no longer see losing the weight as being "successful" Its hard to explain. To me, its now keeping iit off once i do lose it. I have done Atkins before and had what i deemed GREAT SUCCESS!! I lost 50 lbs in 2 months. However, now back on plan with DOUBLE + that amount to lose, in hindsight, i wasn't successful at all. I achieved a goal but i didn't learn anything in how to be successful and in fact, when i first did this way of life, it became one of those yo-yo diets because i didn't take time to learn how Dr. A tried to tell us to be successful wiith this plan and it far encompasses more time than the 2 months it took me to initially lose the weight.

So this brought a question to mind, what does everyone see as being successful in doing Atkins. For me some of them are:

    1) lose the weight AND KEEPING IT OFF!!! lol
    2) to LEARN from it, my past, and to learn while losing the weight.
    3) 10 years from now to still utilize what i am taught about this plan in keeping my weight off.
    4) To feel good because following the plan correctly makes me feel good

What do you see as being successful, could be day to day, week to week, now, when you reach or while on maintenance. When do you feel you are being successfull? Hope this makes sense.
May you all be losers, Sher

After 6 months of being on this diet, my general health improved: I was able to go off almost all my asthma medications (still needed one "as needed"). My stamina and body strength increased. I felt better...'healthier'. And that's when my attitude changed. I look at weight loss as a pleasant side effect of the Atkins Diet. I feel better. My general health has improved greatly. WoooHOOOOOO!!!!

I think for me, success will be defined in having my carb addiction/binges completely under control. Where emotions no longer lead me to doughnuts and candy for solace, but to the arms of friends, exercise, knitting, reading, my pets, anything else.

      Thanks.

Sucess for me is having improved in some way since yesterday. Sometimes, it means having learned a lesson or taken some good advice (which hard for me to do sometimes). Other times, when life plays hardball with me, it is merely making to the next day, picking myself up, and dusting myself off, to go on living and NOT get stuck in a rut.

smiles, megs, i read your post and suddenly realized i was smiling because though i want to lose weight, i am believing i am starting to love feeling good even more!! Looks at my fat, BUT!!!! that doesn't mean i don't want you to go away lol.

Ohh Stacey i can relate with the binging idea, that within itself is HUGE motivator to my goals!!

Exercising regularly and sticking with it permanently no matter what: not faltering at parties, weddings, picnics, vacations, or dinners out. Once you've truly mastered proper low-carbohydrate eating at home, the rest is easy!
