Re: To be or not to be HUNGRY!

Thanks megs!! I will try that and hopefully it will trigger my hunger more often.

That's what i am worried about Stacy lol that because my body is not cueing me in so to speak, my cals which if i exercise twice a day (where i burn 1000 cals according to the machines) i usually only eat about 1200 cals, ON GOOD days.

According to this basal calculator i used at http://www.reply42.com/metabolism/index.html it tells me the following:

1991.21 calories per day is your Basal Caloric Rate.
2588.57 calories per day recommended for your Active Caloric Rate.
No less then 1491.21 calories per day recommended for safe consistent Weight Loss.

Soo lol i am in a dilemma, i fear. I will anaylze it this weekend and see what i can do about it.

    Thanks for your help ladies.

Re: To be or not to be HUNGRY!

Okay, so 1400 to 1600 might be a good range for you. Look at what you're eating and where you might be able to substitute in some good higher calorie items. Of course, the most important thing is the ratio of fat to protein to carbs. I think the rule of thumb is 60%/35%/5%? I could be wrong, but I always seems to be in that range.

Have you listed your menu? Can we take a good long hard look at a week's worth of food? Perhaps some of us "oldtimers" can poke around and make some suggestions. Would you be willing? You can always post your menu on the Menu Board as well -- you will get some excellent feedback that way.

Re: To be or not to be HUNGRY!

Thanks Stacy lol i am a pretty basic food eater my menu usually consists of high fat meats like italian sausage, hamburger, no-sugar bacon mostly. I sometimes have eggs.

Morning i usually have one cup of zucchini or squash, cooked with about 8 slices of bacon (or .25 cup of kalbasa polish sausage), then add 2 eggs and moz/cheddar mix, 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream

Lunch is either 1/2 cups of lettuce, 1 small roma tomato, .15 of slices black olives and 2 tablespoons of sourcream with a cup of hamburger meat that has been seasoned like a taco. (sometimes i will take a can of chicken and season it like taco meat)

Or i have my pizza topping lunch, 1.5 links of mild and hot italian sausage, 1 small roma tomato, .25 cup of spaghetti squash, and .15 cup of black olives, sometimes i will mix it all up with lettuce and chedder/moz cheese mix or sometimes i won't.

That is basically what i eat lol. I am one of those people who can eat the same thing over and over and over again.

With the Italian Sausage thingy as lunch i am only coming out to 870 cals, 68% Fat, 7% Carbs, 26% Protien

With the taco thing for lunch AND the same for dinner (which i don't normally) i am only getting 1450ish, 67% fat, 5% carbs, and 28% protein, when i only eat the lunch i am getting: 966 cals and the same percentages.

sighs, so i guess this weekend i have some figuring out to do, i would have to be doing all this work in exercising and find out because of my eating i am harming my results instead of helping.

Re: To be or not to be HUNGRY!

Sorry i hit the wrong button and locked myself out of here grrrrrrrrrrrrr never change your password if you are a bad speller

what Joy was talking about with thirst has to do with those control centers being located next to each other in the brain and signal spillover occurs making you think hunger whrn thristy. that is why if you drink and it goes away you ar not thirsty.

the signals of hunger are many many besides thst empty growling tummy. dizziness, lightheadedniss, lack of concnetration, and/or easily irritated or agitated. if you get those you need to eat some food.

I am a very strong avocate of Dr Atkins eating only part and stopping but I too like megs tell them to have 1/2 of the rest when they get hungry until they realize just how littlw thwey need.

too many fook fuel up till the next meall and antisopate how much they think they need.

as you learn your hunger don't worry about BMI stuff. remember yiou got tens of thousands of cals stored in your fat cells to use should you need more enenrgy.

If you have ever seen a totdler est that is hunger eating, they pick at food and have a few bits leave come back and do this for several days and then suddenly you are wondering where they are putting all that food they just devored. your body will do like that some days you will be eating about 800 cals and then other you need 3000. it is all go Atkinsing as long as every bite you had was in response to hunger or the 6 hr rule.
          happy low carbing.

Re: To be or not to be HUNGRY!

This is kind of a hard one on the bmr minimum calorie intake. I don't sweat being 100 or even 200 calories below my BMR, because I might have days where I'm a couple hundred over, or more. Remember, we have a metabolic advantage--it takes more energy to change fat into ketones than it does to change carbohydrate into glucose.

With that being said, the only thing I truly ever stress about with regards to calories is if I see that I am consistently eating FAR FAR below my BMR. And when I say that...I had a stretch of time where I was only eating 700-900 calories a day. And I wasn't losing. I had to re evaluate at that point. Otherwise, i really really don't look at my caloric intake except to notice it in fitday (when I bother to use it) when counting carbs. After increasing my carbs through OWL, that deep ketosis went away and the problem with such low caloric intake went away too.

Re: To be or not to be HUNGRY!

Thanks 2big and joy, its been worrying me because i know i am not getting all the cals in i should, i don't want my weightloss to stop lol because it may push me into a freakout mode. This is week 3 of exercising like i am, so i am hoping if i slip into a glitch of normalcy my body will even out and i will become hungry other than at lunch. I will go with the 6 hour rule mostly as joy prompted earlier. So hopefully, this is all just a getting use to it and figuring out what works. i sure the heck won't mind many of those cals in those fat cells being used up. Thanks again to everyone's advice, i will stop obsessing and see what naturally happens with my bod.
