I'd like to ask please if anyone on the ADBB has managed to lose weight while eating Atkins Endulge, Morning Shine or other bars on (that claim to be 2 net carbs) on a regular basis.

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
They cause stalls in nearly everyone that eats them, especially on a regular basis. They are truly evil in my opinion.

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
It's the collective experience of ADBB that they do slow or prevent weight loss. However, it's a "your mileage may vary" type thing. So if you want to eat them, just know the short term and long term consequences.~Megs~

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
Thanks to everyone for stopping by.
My question was has anyone managed to lose weight while eating atkins bars? I was hoping to hear from those who had. I've had the warnings coming down on me like a ton of bricks already, and my purpose in posting this question was to try to hear the other side of the argument, if there is one, and I am sorry I didn't make this clear in the first instance.
I have been trolling the boards all day (done no work whatsoever) and found that a helluva lot of people on ADBB are eating a whole range of frankenfoods (not just atkins bars) to get them through the long months.

my take on this:Originally posted by Waterbabe_HelenaI'd like to ask please if anyone on the ADBB has managed to lose weight while eating Atkins Endulge, Morning Shine or other bars on (that claim to be 2 net carbs) on a regular basis.
it doesn't matter how anybody else reacted to them. your body is your body and comparing how someone manages the intake and how you manage it are two completely different things.
helena, you are addicted to chocolate, you have a problem with splenda, if i read things right, so why set yourself up for a binge, a fall or whatever?

I'm just bored bored bored with this WOE and wanted to find a way of getting through it for the long, long haul that I have ahead of me. I've dropped off Atkins so many times before, because of getting bored with it, and I hoped that this time I could find a way to stay on it.

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
waterbabe_Helena what you want to ask is not only did they lose eating them, but were they able to maintain their weight loss afterwards.
I don't know if you have Slimfast in the UK but many many folk will and do very successfully lose weight eating their bars and drinking their shake but when they get to goal because they didn't learn new eating habits they can't keep the weight off and are perpetual Slimfast customers year after year each time vowing this time I will not regain it.
It is the practice we get eating and fixing the real low carb foods as a part of our menu that lets us keep the weight off as goalies.by the book atkinseer

Waterbabe, I want to try and help you. Why are you getting bored? Have you seen the recipes section? There are loads and loads of meal ideas there that I hope would help releive boredom in anyone.

I would recommend moving onto OWL if you are getting bored, once you have completed your two weeks induction (i'm assuming you have?).Originally posted by Waterbabe_HelenaI'm just bored bored bored with this WOE and wanted to find a way of getting through it for the long, long haul that I have ahead of me. Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
Waterbabe, I've done Atkins more than once. One time, I stayed on strict induction for over 2 months, and got to where I wanted to save time preparing meals (I was still married and had baby and hubby to feed evenings, and a hectic daily schedule).
Sure, I enjoyed the simplicity of substituting an Atkins bar for breakfast or lunch. I continued to lose, but soon found that I was bored with only spending a minute or less for each of those meals, as I enjoy the seeing, handling, smelling and eating pleasures associated with having more time devoted to a meal. Then I started eating more bars. The variety of bars was also becoming boring, so I was merely satisfying a sweet tooth in the process. The weight stopped coming off, so I soon quit dieting.~Susan

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
Heya Waterbabe, sorry to say the bars stall me too, and my mom.
I don't know anyone that has used them during weightloss.
I plan on using them in maintaince for sure when I get there, as replacements for candy bars as a treat once in a blue moon or on trips. I like them because **for me** they come built in with their own handy dandy stop-gap to keep me from bingeing, otherwise known as the ever evil malitol. >.>
I stop eating them, or I suffer. Oh lordy, how I suffer. So I can most definately only eat one!
But ya, only for maintaince, because they will definately halt your weightloss. One thing I would suggest, I know EXACTLY how you feel about getting bored. I had to start researching recepies and be more aggressive about cooking different foods for myself. I had to do this because I knew if I didn't I would get bored and bad things would happen to my waistline.
I now enjoy enough variety of foods that I know I can make this last for a lifetime.

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
Ok, I'll confess
I started eating the Atkins bars after about a month. I got the ones with 3 peanut butter cups per package. I would eat 2 cups every evening with a Diet Rite soda. I looked forward to that snack every day. I did continue to lose weight well while eating those almost every day.
However a few months later I was eating several LC candies a day at times. I was still able to lose some weight. But they were beginning to slow me down. I cut way back and later started eating the Atkins Breakfast bars every morning. Again it slowed me down, but I continued to lose some weight. But I began to realize that I might be just as well off eating a Pop-Tart every day.
So I was able to lose while eating the bars. I know now that I would be much better off without them. But it is possible.
Now LC Ice Cream was a total train wreck.
My current approach is that I do better to eat a little fruit (berries but I even eat apples now) or nuts. The processed bars are little better than the junk they replace. However they are better. Given the choice of giving up or eating the LC bars. Eat the bars.
Also, the best response to food boredom is Dana Carpenters 500 recipes. Try something new.Start 7/5/2004

Re: Atkins bars - are they truly evil?
I've tried Atkins Endulge peanut butter cups, and several different kind of the Advantage Bars and am able to say that they've never stalled me, or made me gain weight or even slowed my weight loss down. They were a life saver when I was working for Statistics Canada during the summer. I'd often not have time for a proper lunch because our Census deadlines were so close so it was either these bars or the sugary confections people brought into the kitchen.
But, as others have said before me...they will have a different effect on different people. And they aren't something I use anymore...just in that extreme situation where a proper lunch in bar form was a necessary emergency. I successfully had one for lunch 5 days a week for four months and never had any problems.
I'm not totally against them like most, but I would rather have a tasty tuna salad or something along that line for lunch than faux chocolate with the texture of a dry brownie lol
Hope that helps answer your question!sigpic
