  • Has anyone tried...

The chocolate truffle recipe in DANDR? (Page 484) In the future I was thinking I might like to try it (I have a cookie exchange coming up in later Dec. and thought I might make those) but was wondering if anyone has made them and what they think of them?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

I never tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You should try it out and see what happens. If it's okay, then freeze the batch and bring it to your exchange.

Ok, so we made them today (was going to bring them to my Granpa's birthday party as a gift) and let me tell you....I didn't think too much of them. But I should probably head that off with a disclaimer stating that I absolutely abhor the taste of Splenda. I would say that if you're a fan of dark chocolate and don't mind the aftertaste of Splenda, then they're probably awesome.

And for future reference, anyone who wants to make them, the melon baller doesn't quite work as well as the book would have you think. The melon baller is supposed to roll the chocolate up into these nice little truffles and then you dust them with cocoa powder. Um, yeah. NO ONE in my house (including several female guests with melon baller experience -hee haha-) could get that chocolate to come out of the baller. It was kind of a mess that we ended up molding together with our hands.

So there you have it. My opinion on chocolate truffles.

Thanks for the heads up Chasin. Maybe dipping the melonballer in water would have helped.

Or one of those tiny cookie scoop things. Anyhow, Splenda + chocolate = major yuck, imo.
