  • Thanksgiving - Can I make it?

Ok. I think that I am the only one freaking out about the holiday. I'm in my 13 day of induction and I plan to stay on it for the time being. I havent weighted myself yet, but I am pretty sure I have lost some weight. Now my dilemma is this, I am not craving sweets or anything, but I know the pies are going to be there and I don't know how strong I am going to be. What should I do? The worst case senario, what happens if I do break the diet? Can you have one bad meal and then go back to normal?

I will apreciate the help. I have a dress that I need to fit into before Jan.5

Oh I'm sure that many of us are steeling ourselves for the holidays. But... I think we have to concentrate more on the wonderful things we can eat, rather than the stuff we can't.

There are some amazing recipes for the holidays that are legal; besides, turkey and veggies are legal. Someone else is sure to point you in the right direction for these, because I don't 'do' Thanksgiving, being a Brit living in Italy, so I'm not sure quite what's traditional for you (it has to be pumpkin pie though, right?).

Get yourself into the right mind set, think positive and you'll do grand. I strongly would NOT recommend a day's break in the diet. It would play havoc with your blood sugar and probably cause cravings...and cavings!! Too many have fallen off the wagon by following the 'just one day' way of thinking. Don't risk it!

    Have a happy holiday!

Why not bring your own low carb desert?

Linda's site is an excellent resource for recipes:

      http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/dessert_recipes.html

Any recipe with a * is induction friendly. I haven't made it..but have heard good reviews of the pumpkin custard recipe.

I make the deserts for all of our family dinners now, all are low carb and everyone loves them. For thanksgiving this year (ours is in Oct) i made low carb mini cheese cakes and pumpkin pie. The pumpkin pie was a martha stewart recipe and i subbed sweetener for the sugar and made a ground nut crust. since you are in induction you can just bake in a buttered pie plate for a crustless pie.

Re: Thanksgiving - Can I make it?

make your own pumpkin or cheese cake and take them to share with others all induction legal recipes check out low carb cooking section holiday menu forum but remember some of those are not for induction.

you can do it if you want to. if you need some visual help just grab the high carb food and apply it to your area when you gain easiest and skip the digestion part. just visualizing those high carb foods stuck there should be enough to keep you smiling and not eating them.

if you do sucome to those high carb sirens calling your name msake the very next bite low carb Atkins legal and get going again.

Another suggestion is to make the holiday about sharing time with your family and friends, rather than sharing time with a pumpkin pie.

Always have a game plan when you go to an event like this. Scope out the food to see what is legal for your phase of Atkins. Bring something that you can eat: a veggie side dish, a dessert, a beverage, whatever.

Tell your host/hostess that you are on a restrictive diet, that you have a weight loss goal, that you do not want to be derailed/sabotaged/whatever. Most people are very gracious and will be supportive of your efforts and will interevene when someone 'lovingly' pushes a plate full of pie and ice cream onto your lap.

The final thing is that YOU are in control of whatever you eat. No one can "force" you to eat anything, unless they hold you down and shove the food into your mouth. Put yourself and your health first. If someone tells you they would be hurt if you don't try whatever food, tell them that whatever food will hurt your health so thanks but no thanks. If they truly cared about you, they will be supportive.

I always make my own dessert. Another thing that helps me is to get busy cleaning up the kitchen while eveyone is overdosing on the sweets. I burn calories too while washing up the big pans.

Re: Thanksgiving - Can I make it?

Thanksgiving is the easiest holiday to low-carb through. With so many healthy choices available for someone on induction, I know you can and will make the right choices!

Hang in there! You will do this.
