  • Very good motivation...

    Hello,

I thought I'd share a little motivational trick that has worked very well for me - though I expect some of you have tried it.

I have a stack of books in my bedroom which weighs the same as the amount of weight I have lost, every week I weigh books on my food scales and add them to the stack. It's a really good visual reminder and really cheers me up if I haven't lost just to see it there. Obviously books are less dense than fat I've lost, but I'm a 'big' reader so it seemed a good choice for me. I put books I've read whilst doing Atkins in the pile so I can remember what was going on at the time. You could try it with anything though (I saw a woman on TV do it with bags of sugar - but I'm not sure if that goes with the whole ethos of Atkins )

It is nearly a meter tall and I had to have my BF help me pick it up yesterday - I cannot believe how heavy it is!

Anyone else got any little tricks like this?

Wow, what a fantastic idea. I have a teenage daughter doing this with me, her loss is very slow, but I think this would be a wonderful visual aid...thanks sooo much for sharing this with us all!

I like the butter boxes idea because each box equals 1 lb. I don't actually *have* 42.5 butter boxes in my living room stacked up, but I like to imagine they're there.

Well, since I am a bowler, and I throw a 16 lb. ball, and since I've lost 25 lbs already, it's nice to know that so far I've lost at least one and a half bowling balls worth of weight. No wonder my knees haven't been hurting me lately.

                Re: Very good motivation...

I heard about making five-pound sand bags (bean bags).
However, the one-pound increments of butter is nice, as it doesn't take as long to get to the next one, I guess. However, you'd be better off filling them with something else or leaving them empty as a visual, rather than having melted butter all over your bedroom floor!!

Great idea~ Thanks for sharing with us. I love visual motivation. I use it with dog food. Everytime I'm at the store to buy another bag....I look at the 100 pound bags and add a 10 pound bag on top of it to get a visual. It is very exciting!!
