Eating full-fat dressings at restaurants, however with "mystery ingredients" added - though this did not occur too frequently. Regardless, I learned my lesson about requesting ingredient information from the kitchen/manager very early on!Sheila, Founder of SugarFreeSheila.com

Re: throw out of.....
Ketosis is about your body burning fuel. You body will burn so many carbs a day based on how active you are. Ketosis is reached when the ketones in your bodily fluids have reached a high enough level. The usual way to test is to use the ketostix. If the ketostick turns color at all, you are in ketosis.
Once the body burns off the carbs you have eaten for the day and starts burning fat, ketones build up in your body fluids, urine being the most frequently tested, and in your breath, you actually breathe them out, which is the reason for the bad breath associated with this way of life/eating.
Based on the 20 carb induction rule, you very quickly start to burn fat because it takes the body no time at all to burn those few carbs and start the fat burning process to produce ketones that are expelled in your urine and breath.
So, consider:
You eat 20 carbs and between what your body has the ability to burn naturally and with activity you do, your body burns those 20 carbs and starts burning fat very quickly, including the fat deposits on your body, which produces enough ketones to register as ketosis.
Then say you eat 50 carbs in a day, and you aren't active enough to burn those carbs off, and your metabolism is slow because you're overweight and not moving. Your body will not produce ketones and you are out of ketosis because your body never got around to burning any fat, it was too busy trying to burn off the carbs.
The idea of eating 20 carbs a day on induction is to give you a running head start and get your body into fat burning mode quickly, and effectively. You will find a decrease in appetite usually goes along with the stabilization of blood sugar levels during induction and the lack of ups and downs caused by the huge influx of carbs helps a LOT. Active people will stay in ketosis even on a higher carb count because they burn the carbs quickly and still get into fat burning mode to produce enough ketones to stay in ketosis daily.
Bottom line is (and I hope I didn't lose you or ramble too long) you will drop out of ketosis when your individual body is getting too many carbs to support burning enough fat to produce enough ketones to remain in ketosis.

Re: throw out of.....
alcohol, some antibiotice, active immune systems, eating too much protein or to many carbs. there are lots of ways to get knocked out. DO not rely on the stix to tell you either cause ketones exist in 3 forms inthe body and only 1 form is measured on stix and only if you had an excess of that type of ketone in your blood stream at the time that urine was made. whew lots of ifs there.
Dr Atkins defined ketosis as the burning of fats as fuel. every human on earth unless they are hooked up to a feeing tube are in ketisi during the later hours of sleep. eat your Atkins according to the rules do your daily exericise drink your water and you should be in some degree of ketosis for the rest of your life.by the book atkinseer

Re: throw out of.....
Okay, if sleeping helps, I'm all for a few days of straight sleep!
Joking, I wish! I'm glad you posted 2big, I was on antibiotics forever, and I never realized what kind of damage they could be doing! How do the antibiotics work when you're on Atkins, do you know? Is there a thread somewhere on it? I'm going to check the health chat to see if there is!

Re: throw out of.....
it should also say eating too much protein not just carbs since protein is converted to sugar for storage when it exceeds the amount your body needsby the book atkinseer
