What do you do when most of your friends are veggies or vegans? I'd feel guilty eating meat around them when they come over. I prepare lentil, chickpea, rice dishes for them and when I go over they always have high carb vegan/veggie foods. I can only eat omelettes and eggs in their presence for so long. HELP. Any ideas? 2 Big , where you at? lol.

You have a medical condition. One that, if not treated correctly with your diet, could make you ill or worse. You need to be healthy. That in and of itself is enough reason to worry more about yourself than what they think about what you eat when you're around them.

If they are good friends, they get it. If not, you need new friends.

Have you been to the websites provided to you in other threads and gotten more info on Celiac? I'll never understand why what we eat when we're with people becomes a reason for stress. It's food, and it's your choice. Be strong, nothing having to do with a friendship should ever be based on your food choices, and in my opinion, it would be ridiculous for them to make that an issue. Who is putting a time limit on how "long" you can eat omelettes in front of them? Don't make it an issue if they haven't. If they do.. goodness, get out and meet some new people.

I really don't understand this issue sorry.

you allow then to have the foods in your house that they believe to be correct eating and go out of your way to accomadate them in violation of your food beliefs (Atkins). But threy do not recipricate? Are you sure they are your friends?

I talk to the emotional eatters about finding triggerring event and changing them. DO likewise with this. I'd strongly suggest you meet on neutral terms and picnic you with yours and them with theirs. and simply enjoy each others company and freindship and agree to disagree on foods.

I just think it's more extreme to see a dead animal on my plate from their persepective than for me to see a lentil on their plates.

I think it's very sweet of you to think like that, but I'm also pretty sure if they're over 5 years old, they've lived through the horrid ordeal of seeing someone eat a steak.

            Still, cute.

              Re: My friends

I'm no expert but when it comes to friends, whatever your choices are, it would be accepted. You are entitled to being yourself! A friend would be most considerate of your decicions.. for example, although most of my friends are against low-carbing, they'd always ask me when I'm invited over if there is something special or of what they would have is suitable..

its sweet of you to be considerate of their feelings seeing meat on your plate, but they should be as considerate to what your food beliefs are.

I'm a vegetarian. And I can say, your friends ought not to be offended or anything if you eat meat in front of them. I don't know about them, but I'm not crusading or recruiting or anything. I understand that it's the natural order of things for people to eat meat. I just choose not to. And I'm assuming they'll feel the same. As long as you don't try to feed them meat, they probably don't care what you're making for yourself.

As for visiting them, bring a pre-prepared dish.

                  Re: My friends

I don't have the time for folks who are so self-righteous that they make you go off your diet so they won't have to see a slab of meat. I am sorry, but, people like this are immensely naive. I, myself, am an animal lover and I raise many animals that end up as dinner elsewhere, but these folks need to realize that it is impossible to allow animals to roam free and never become dinner. We simply do not have enough grain and grassland to support such an ideal.

I don't mean to offend, but I am surprised these folks allow you to be their friend considering you are ok with the slaughter of animals. Back to subject, friends respect friends ways of life. You should not have to eat friggin' lentils (which is darn high in carbs and could make you sick if you aren't used to eating high carbs) any more than your buds should be made to eat prime rib. You eat what you want and if they can't handle it, they need to grow up, just as Jasmain alluded to.

does this also mean they wont go out with you or anyone when you wear dead animals (leather shoes, purse or a leather jacket)? Do they never eat in any restarant that serves meat? with all the slabs of dead animals on peoples plates? I have a cousin who is a vegetarian, his wife and children are not..he says it's his choice and he respects all the choices of others, including family and friends. We have turkey and roasts when he's at dinner, and we accomodate him with fish and lots of veggies.

                    I agree with this 100%.
