  • What did you learn from Yesterday

Yesterday, here in the US, was a big day for many people doing the plan. So now that it has come and gone, what were some things you learned from yesterday? Whether you stuck with your plan, slipped and faultered, fell completely etc. Everyone probably learned something about themselves and this way of life. Some may have learned they could do this without feeling deprived, some may have learned they need to tweak their plan, some may have learned some new strength or weakness.

All over the world, people are preparing for the Holidays, the US got to test drive their plans with Thanksgiving, so perhaps what yu learned yesterday about yourself and your plan etc may help someone else be strong or be better prepared or have the motivation to get through the coming month of holiday season.

I didn't have a huge T-day feast, i had to pick my parents up from the airport so we simply went to IHOP the only place open around here lol. plus they had a 2.5 hour drive home thereafter. I learned to READ the menu as i was about to order an omlet i read the little italics thing that they put buttermilk and wheat batter in the eggs to make the omlet fluffier. YIKES! So i order grill chicken instead and made my dad eat the fries lol. Grins, i also learned that Dad's are really good at eating what i shouldn't be so i push everything over to him lol. Yesterday he had my croutons, my fries, and my piece of garlic bread.
May you all be losers, Sher

Re: What did you learn from Yesterday

I learned that I could get through the entire day without feeling cheated and deprived.

I also learned that it is possible to become too filled up. I made a Bacon & Cheese spread that was warm and delightful and I ate too much of it, followed way too soon with a very reasonable amount of the rest of dinner (I could actually SEE large parts of my plate when I served it up, which is a holiday first, I think - in the past I've piled so much on there was NO white space). Anyway, I was awake most of the night last night.

I'm guessing that what went on is that what I did eat digests so much more slowly than the high carb, high processed junk I used to eat that my stomach didn't empty out like I'm used to - even though I was done with eating way before bedtime.

It was a different kind of full, though. Not bloated full. Just full, like no more space.

FYI if you ask them for just eggs in your omelette you will not get the pancake batter in it.

I didn't really learn any new stuff about my Atkins cause i've been practcing doing it right for 4 yrs now. But I remember from my first thanksgiving don't save up all your carbs for the meal or you will be having sugar food cravings afterwards. keep then spread out all day long.

Re: What did you learn from Yesterday

I learned that I either DO NOT LIKE mashed fauxtatoes, or I just don't make them well...I think I don't like them, because I watched Kent's youtube video on how to make them, and followed directions to a T.

I learned that it's not hard at all to stay on plan during a holiday. I made a chocolate marble cheesecake that was AWESOME and LOW CARB! My boyfriend, who's a carbaholic, liked it, and said it was "too rich!" He couldn't finish his piece.

I learned that I am truly a turkey addict. I REALLY held back on eating as much turkey as I usually do--and I felt proud of myself because I was pleasantly full, NOT STUFFED, and I didn't pass out in front of the TV like I normally do.

I learned that Holidays just aren't the same without family. My boyfriend and I live in a different state, 2000 miles from where we grew up. It almost felt like any other day, because we didn't share it with relatives.

Thanks 2big, i asked the guy if it were possible to make the omlet without the batter and they said no its premade, shrugs, so much for IHOP lol. Wow congrats on your 4 years i didn't realize its been that long. All i know is how much you lost based on your post, perhaps it would be cool to have a 2big tell all one day for those of us who missed your journey.

Sandy isn't it amazing when you don't feel that urge to fill up all your white spots. I am a feast or faminine mindsetter, which means i always see good food as my last meal and so i have a hard time with moderation because my mind things i will never get it again lol. Good for you in accomplishing not filling your plate.

Hey juli, i haven't tried the fauxatoes yet because i love cauliflower and am afraid i won't eat it in moderation. I keep having visions of fauxatoes with butter sourcream, cheese and bacon bits lol. I also wanted to try the fauxatoe salad. Have you tried that at all?

My family isn't big on any holiday anymore, we all live far away and my parents are usually out of town, they usually go to Jamaica for a month over christmas, and Vegas for Thanksgiving, and the rest of my family is home in Chicago. Even though i spend with friends sometimes, its just not the same. Hugss, you and your bf diid great keeping it a Thanksgiving day, start your own traditions perhaps that will help put the "holiday" back into it for you two when you can't get home. OH and DECORATE for Christmas lol. When i first came down here i stopped doing it because i was like well its just me, and it got really depressing, i finally decorated last year and it lifted my spirits some. Grins, i think i miss christmas homemade polish sausage and dumplins lol (yes we are polish so recipes from the old country lol) more than i ever did the chaos of family lol. My mom has 10 bros and sis', they all but her have at LEAST 3 kids, mom only had 2, and all of those kids all have at least 3 kids so you can imaging the ummmm clutter of people lol. Its a mess lol. grins, okay okay you twisted my arm, i miss the presents!!! too lol. I am such a kid.

Hang in there chickee, your boyfriend and you have a chance to start some special times for holiday traditions.

Re: What did you learn from Yesterday

I learned that monks are real people. LOL. no seriously, I had dinner with my BFs family in a monestary. (very weird for a non-Catholic girl!!!!). I need to learn the recipe for the salad dressing thats for sure!! lordy it was good! I learned that I can have a holiday dinner in MODERATION with strangers and not be bloated and blechy after. (this was my first holiday family meal on Atkins, 10 months after starting!!!!). I learned that my BF was more supportive of my food choices then I ever knew. (He loves me how I am and says it often. His mom offered me a roll which I declined politely and he said "she cant eat them" after his mom asked if I was sure. Which made not eating the potatos and stuffing and corn or desserts a non issue).

I also learned, I still only tolerate roast turkey. its not my choice of meats thats for sure.

abstract--you're a Polish girl, too? That's ANOTHER thing I miss...the town I grew up in had a HUGE Polish population and a great Polish neighborhood with a GREAT Polish meat market--the best Polish sausage ever...<sigh> My mom claims her Polish g'ma made better sausage, and I believe her, but Krycziak's is damn good, too! Not too many Polocks in Montana...just me. I make a joke about Kielbasa and nobody got it. They thought I sneezed.

falls over laughing... bless you juli, hands you a tissue. My mom was born on the boat over so my older aunt makes the sausage homemade, though with her arthritis she only makes it now when i come in (i'm her favorite lol). I am from Chicago and definitely miss ALL the food and markets. Nashville just doesn't understand lol. So i feel ya girlie.

i'm like 2big, i've been eating this way for so long that i really don't think about it. i just do it.
i learned mom puts 2 cups of sugar in her cranberry salad so i can't have that.
i learned mom will never understand that i don't want or need the sugar any more.
i learned it's really nice to be the smallest adult female in the room. that alone is a "sweet" trade off!

Such great recipes and ideas everywhere too, can't wait!
