  • Dilemma for bday and Christmas

Well my bday and christmas are coming up and present lists are being requested. I always never know what i want lol its like all year i have wishes then draw blanks when the wishes needed to be known lol

Soooooooo, since i now have a new fridge, and am trying to learn to cook low carb, what are some things (not food, but things) you all have found you can't live without in the kitchen??

I've already got crockpot, low carb crockpot recipe book, food processor, and food saver bags and canisters. I've already have tons of lowcarb recipes a 3inch nb and cookbooks.

I would love some ideas of things i wouldn't know i need or should have to benefits my low carb lifestyle.

    Thanks for any ideas
May you all be losers, Sher

My personal dream cooking gift is a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, i debated whether to get dh to be me that for that for xmas or an eliptical..i figure i better get the eliptical first or my only exercise will be polishing my mixer

i've heard great things about george forman grills if you don't hae one

a really good omlette pan (a good one can be pricey..but is well worth it).

ohh thanks ladies, i appreicate the ideas!! I have an elliptical trying to sell iit as i have never really used it and now am part of a gym.

        What's a stand mixer?

I have a GF grill but its old like the 1st one he made that was for more than 2 burgers. But it still works, i think that would be a good idea as his new ones are better.

SPICES.. yes! I was looking at spices yesterday while shopping waiting for my parent's plane to get in.

This is the Kitchen Aid stand mixer:

Here they range in price from low $200's to $799 . You can also get a meat grinding attachment as well that is very cool.

I just remembered 1 other thing...for christmast last year I got a convection toaster oven that I love too! Since it's just me and hubby, it's perfect for making meals and not having to turn on the big oven. I also bake lc muffins etc in it.

also I don't have one..but how bout a deep fryer?

subscriptions to different cooking magazines? I personally enjoy Cooking Light (most things are convertible to LC).Bon Appetit is popular as well.

                Good knife set
                nice cutting boards
                parchement paper
silicone baking dishes (square pans, cake pans, muffin pans etc)
                nice mixing bowls
probe thermometer (for meats. the ones with a degree desired setting are nice! they go off when the temp is hit so you can take the guess work out of when somethings done for carryover)

Oooh I'm still drooling over that KitchenAid...my bf asked me if I wanted one this year...and I was like, dude they're $400!

OK, yes, ask for a deep fryer to make mozzarella sticks
A nice knife set to carve turkeys, cut steak, slice beef for jerky.
A huge supply of DaVinci sugar free syrups...they are fantastic!
Low Carb cookbooks--Fran McCullough has a great one!
                        Gift certificate to Omaha Steaks.
New set of pots and pans--since you're going to be making all those eggs!
A nice springform pan so you can make cheesecake.
What about an indoor herb/spice garden? That way you always have fresh stuff!

Re: Dilemma for bday and Christmas

Instead of the George Foreman grill, go for the Hamilton Beach one (available at walmart). They have two sizes, but go for the full size one. The nice thing about the Hamilton Beach vs the George Foreman is that the griddles in the Hamilton Beach one COME OUT and you can put them in the dishwasher or in the sink to be washed, unlike the GF. I *LOVE* that thing.

The other thing I use soooo often is my black and decker handy chopper and my immersion blender. Cuisinart has a nice one (available at Sams Club) that makes it both an immersion blender and the chopper. The chopper is like a mini food processor.
