  • Why?

Am I in the purple range in keto sticks. I am eating 100 grams of good carbs. Does this mean i will lose weight, because that's the opposite of my goal.

    Re: Why?

Not necessarily; it can also mean you need to drink more water...if you're dehydrated/haven't had enough water, ketostix will measure deep purple. But I'm not an expert on them...someone else could probably answer your question better!

      Re: Why?

I hate keto sticks. They make me all nervous and panicky. Last year, when I was actively in the process of losing weight, if it didn't change colour I would freak out. This year, I freak out because it is turning purple. I am just consuming a high maintenance level of carbs , I just don't get why I'd have freakin ketones in my body. Get them out! lol. I just associate ketones with fat loss, which I don't want.

        Re: Why?

I've never used them...I think I would be freaking out all the time if I did. Oh and since I live in podunk-ville, I'd have to order them special, can't even buy 'em at the store.

          Re: Why?

When I went to buy them the other day, the cashier said"You are so thin, how are you diabetic?". Ugh, hello, there is such a thing as Type 1 hereditary diabetes and low carb diets.

I am going to pee on all the sticks at once and throw them out.

              Re: Why?

I'm wondering if you have done any google searches for celiac weight gain diets, or spoke to your Dr. This really may not be the best place to find the answer to this

If you do alot of exercise and depending on your metabolism, yes you could still be in ketosis at 100g's IMO>

I have and my doctor is perfectly happy with this WOL. Also I cannot eat more than 100 grams of carbs due to my reactive hypoglycemia so thanks for your concern. I am on a celiac board and this board, both are parts of my life.

The sticks are only a tool!
What you are seeing as purple could just be the fats that you have eaten. The sticks do not show if you are burning fat or passing the fats you have eaten.

                    Re: Why?

Celiac patients have very specific dietary challenges. Since you also have reactive hypoglycemic issues and underweight issues, I'm quite surprized that your physician hasn't sent you to a nutritionist to help you with your menues.

I see that you are in Vancouver. However, you might want to contact this person: Connie Stuart, MS, RD, CSP at the McMaster Children's Hospital in Ontario. She is a registered dietician who has worked with celiac patients in Canada, the UK, and at Johns Hopkins University in the US. I'm sure she can get you in touch with a celiac dietary specialist in Vancouver.
