Re: Did you get rid of your bigger clothes?

For years I kept several different sizes in my closet, from size 14 thru 20; this made it very easy for me to transcend to the next size with ease, not even realizing that I had gained weight. Not this time around. My new deal is go straight to Goodwill each time I go down a size. There is definitely no going back for me.

I would say that you have the right attitude Chasin2Kids. "Relax, Relate and Release."

I should get rid of them! No excuses for going back! Right??

Anyone else? Do you keep your bigger clothes or give them away?

I personally believe no matter the weight loss system it is a must to get rid of the big clothes. I think in order to instill in your mind this is it you must not keep them. Don't give yourself the option of needing them in the future. Instead I say go with the, I'm never going to ned them again.

I pack them up in an out of the way spot...attic in my case. It's nice to think you'll never backslide but it can be an expensive lesson. Doesn't hurt and you can gradually donate them if you seem to be under control for long periods of time....

I do the same with my "small" clothes if I go up a size or 2. The 34's I have on now sat in the attic for a year and a half while I came back down from 40's.

        My 2 cents.

I got rid of everything except one pair of jeans. I use those as a measure of how far I've come and when I'm feeling like this is taking too long and I haven't made any progress, I put them on...both legs in one....and see just how far I have come!

Ok, I think I can top everyone else's story the way I got rid of them, hehehe, they actually got STOLEN !!!!
I did my laundry and the last pieces of clothing that I was still wearing from my old size I used as my work clothes, hey who cares if they got stained and then I forgot to get them out the drier one night at the apartements we used to live in, well, next morning everything was gone!
Some of the things that were taken were some that were good in my new size, so yah I cried over those (one really cute dress, I still get sad thinking of that one) but the rest: GOOD RIDDANCE
Too bad I got no clothes left for checking 'how I was'

Re: Did you get rid of your bigger clothes?

I didn't think of this before but this brings up a related problem. At what point to you buy new clothes because your old clothes are too big? I've lost two pant sizes so far (46 to 44)and already my old pants are beginning to fall off. Fortunately I have some older size 44 that used to be too tight for me, but what happens when I get to 40 or 38? Do I buy new pants knowing I'm going to have to discard them when I reach my goal, or do I just tighten up the belt and hope that that is good enough to keep them on?

This could get rather expensive (though I suppose it's a problem I will be perfectly happy to have! =)

What we need is some sort of clothes swapping service. You turn in some clothes that are too large and swap them for something smaller. Then your clothes get taken by someone when they lose weight and reach your old size. Hmmmmm

I gave them away!! I only kept one pair of pants so that I can take a picture with them on when I am done!

Grant--it's a good problem to have, and how often you buy new stuff depends on how fat your wallet is! I'm trying to keep stuff as long as possible, wearing pants with belts until they look too ridiculous or are really annoying.

But I don't have too much of a problem, since I had gained a lot of weight this summer and wasn't wearing "real" clothes anyway--I was wearing t-shirts, tank tops, stretchy yoga pants, etc. All of my "real" clothes were too small at that point, and since they never really fit to begin with, I don't have much of a problem with stuff being too big for me yet!

Re: Did you get rid of your bigger clothes?

I just cleaned out my closet today, and I have a box full of stuff to give away. But, I do admit feeling a little hesitant about actually doing it. Lots of nice work clothes... would be expensive to replace. BUT, I don't ever intend to need that size again... still, sorta scary.

Grant, I've just been buying a few pieces here and there to hold me over. I use belts like Julie. And I also had some clothes that didn't fit before that now do. You might want to consider going to Goodwill for some inbetween sizes... you'd be surprised at the quality and name brands you'll find.
