  • finally getting real!!!

Ok going to be totally honest here about everything im doing wrong.

I am still in extended induction (though occasionally eating from rung 1 (extra cup veggies) like once a week maybe). My weight loss has slowed so dramatically. I am loosing like a lb every 2 weeks. I also am not exercising as I should be. Ok, almost not at all the last few weeks. Since starting atkins I havent been able to stick to an exercise routine. I just cant seem to make it habit. Joining the challenges hasnt helped, I have tried the treadmill (which I kinda liked but it got old, workout videos just plain old boring and tiring, and its too miserable out to go walking. I did like my walk away the lbs vid but with roomates and the only place to do it is in the livingroom, it dont happen too often, I cant do it in front of ppl. I know the exercise (lack of that is) is partly to blame but also its not like I was doing it then stopped, I have never been doing it like I should. (someone kick me now!!) I plan to remedy this but need a game plan. i want to make this a life long habit (exercise).

Ok so my questions are this...

    1. Can being on induction too long cause you to stop loosing? Does my body need to move on already? I was hoping to wait until I reached my mini goal then move on.

    2. Can eating from rung one (extra allowed veggies) slow weight loss if im only doing it sparatically and not daily like I would be if I moved into OWL?

    3. Any suggestions for making exercise a routine and a long term way of life when you have been severely lazy (suspected chronic fatigue syndrome...or is that just another excuse?....) your whole life. HAHA!

Seriously though I need some help. As far as everything else goes I am doing great. I havent strayed from the meal plan or cheated food wise or anything but I am not doing atkins I know if I am not exercising.

Can you believe that guy on biggest loser lost 100+lbs in 3 months?????? Its definately how hard they are working out! The healthy eating is the most important thing sure but no way they could pull those #'s with out working out like that! Really sheds some light on what I am doing wrong. If I only did a 4th of that (working out) I could be doing phenominal! I have to get my butt in gear and get moving!!!! With 4 kids (I baby sit for my roomate as well as 3 of my own) all under 5 my options are limited but still I know there is something more I can do!

Oh, by the way, dont hold back, Im not easily offended and I posted because I truely wanted help, not looking for someone to tell me im doing ok when I know I know im not doing what I should be. If others can give it their all I know I can too but I havent been doing it. I know its a "reap what ya sow" kinda thing. You get out of it what ya put in so what do I expect only doing it half a**ed? Id just like some suggestions for getting moving indoors with 4 toddlers and preschoolers and some answers to my concerns. Thanks!!!

Seriously? I can't believe w/that many kids ever sits down!!!

My kids and I do races. We clear all the furniture to the walls and run. We have aroom w/two doors, so you can run a circle around, and catch them of guard when you turn around "boo!", that kind of thing. Think like the stop-starts or up-downs football teams do. If you are energetic and enhusiastic, they won't even get bored.

I use my (27#) baby for resistance training too, and girl, my pecs and biceps are killer. I lift him from floor to head, from waist to chest, from waist to head. I push him out in front. We do all that in front of a mirror and he just cackles! I lay on the floor and make like he's doing pushups. Then I put his 34# brother on my legs, like an airplane. When I move him or pump him, it's my legs. If I just hold him it's my abs.

Hope that helps. Every bit helps. Even just shaking your booty to one whole song at a time, holding one of them, 4 times a day, would be huge.

They need me now. Let me know if I haven't been clear, and GL!
What is it, a RACE? It's coming off, right????

      Re: finally getting real!!!

Mindy, I would suggest moving to OWL. I was worried to do it at first, but my weight loss REALLY accelerated once I did that...I lost like 11.5 pounds the first month I moved to OWL. I think your body needs a change--a lot of people have said that when they added more carbs in, their weight loss got back on track. Eat an extra serving of veggies everyday. Rung 1 is awesome...I never thought I'd say that I was GLAD I could eat MORE veggies...but it gave me the option of eating more green beans, and pumpkin, and spaghetti squash, my 3 favorite veggies. I stayed on each rung for 2 weeks...just make sure you follow the rules about eating a new food only 3x the first week, then you can eat it daily--this really helps to see if you have an adverse reaction to something, get cravings, etc.

When I was on induction, I didn't eat the full 20 carbs--probably only 15 a day. So moving to OWL rung 1 FINALLY put me at 20 carbs...I think you should give it a try. Like so many others have said, NOBODY gets fat from eating too many veggies!!

      Lots of luck, Mindy.

I just wanted to say- its so great to see you being so honest! it's easy to hide behind our computer screens and say everythings peachy becuase, who would know?? but I really appreciate people just being REAL. ... anyway!! my advice about excersize is, if you can, find a friend to do it with. Even if they don't eat like you just having someone who will call you and say, meet me at five to run or whatever... that's really the only thing that keeps me going. I run with a friend I've had since we were 15 and it's a good time to catch up as well as excersize. and it's great to realize how far we've come as well.

          Re: finally getting real!!!

Sometimes to get in exercise when the weather is too bad(and I am stuck at home with the kids) I will play music realy loud and dance with the kids. I swing them around in my arms also. They think I am a really great fun mama(at the time at least!) and I am out of breath and sweating. Sometimes we will kick a soccer ball around outside or play tag. When I go to the store I park far away from the entrance. These are all small things but it all adds up.

me and my friend used to do power walking when all her children were in bed!!

We used to leave the house at about 8.30pm and get back for 9.30pm!

Dancing is a good exercise - like some of the others have mentioned!!

I find I lose so much better when I'm exercising!!

Good luck - and you're doing great so far! keep up the good work

Awesome ideas! I havent been looking at it the right way, i was only seeing how I couldnt workout wtih all the kids, not how I could use them to help me! Also I bet they would take better naps spending up some of that pent up energy of theirs, haha!
