Hi...I am back on Atkins and confused about the percentages. I thought on Atkins you don't count calories just carbs. you eat until you are satisfied and during induction stay under 20 carbs. Am I missing something???

                      Re: ?Carb/Fat/Protein ratios?

Indeed it's not about calories (especially not in induction, some people do look at their calorie intake in a later stadium of the diet, but let's not make it more confusing than it is )
The ratios that they are talking about here is the percentages of carbs versus fat intake and protein intake.
                      This is 5% carbs, 30 % protein and 65 % fat.
What most of us here use is this website called fitday.com, you can use this to put in all the things you eat in a day and it breaks it down to percentages for you so you can see if you keep up to the perfect ratios for losing most.
Hope that cleared it up a bit for you.
                      Happy losing !!

Dont get too tied up in the percentages to start with - just concentrate on eating from the allowed list and with up to 20 net carbs, the majority from your vegetables.

If you follow the rules in the Induction chapter you will probably find your percentages work out roughly to the recommended ones. I didnt find out about www.fitday.com till I had been Atkineering for over 6 months and was just counting net carbs without bothering about calories, but when I entered my usual induction menu into fitday they worked out at the correct percentages without any alterations.

BTW these percentages are not written down in DANDR but arose after a university (Dukes I think) conducted a test by working out the fat/protein/carb ratios of the suggested menus for induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I get confused with all the tracking as well, in fact I have not been doing any I have been on induction for 3 months and dropped 15 pounds and now zip, nada, nothing more is budging off me. I wish I had more time to plan these kinds of things. But now I am curious, I have been eating alot of protien, very little of fat, and almost next to nothing in carbs, so does that mean that the diet does not work as well? By the ratios I read here, it looks like I should be eating more fat?!?
