is this diet soda ok??? it says on the label "no carbs", its organic...if that makes any difference. the ingredients are: pure triple filtered carbonated water, citric acid, natural potassium citrate, acesulfame potassium, sucralose (splenda brand), natural fruit flavors with extracts of washington black cherries.

its clear in color and tastes wonerful! the brand is Hansen's.

      Re: diet soda

Hi Kelly, Your question has been moved from food and cooking chat forum to the Main Atkins forum where it's more appropriate, you should get more responses here.

diet sodas sweetened with splenda are fine however you must count the sweeteners towards your daily limit, I would say a soda would be 3 sweeteners but maybe someone else could confirm?

This also has Ace-K as a sweetener, so just be cautious should you hit a stall, you may want to consider taking the soda back out of your diet to see if it's causing the issue.

        Re: diet soda

Just an FYI about sweeteners. You can only have 3 sweeteners a day (Splenda, Stevia, etc.). 1 soda is probably 3 sweeteners which means you are getting a lot of sweetener all at once - which may cause an issue for you or it may not (everyone is different).

However, I would just make a note about some personal experiences. We have about 6 people who are all following Atkins together - and except for 1 man we have all had the same experience which is:

Concentrate your sweeteners all together (like all at the end of the day) or
Have 4 or more sweeteners in a day or
Have 3 sweeteners every day, for more than 5 days in a week

and wa-la, slow or no weight loss.

Cut back the sweeteners, spread them out, enjoy them occasionally - and there seems to be no problem.

Again, everyone is different but I was pretty amazed that 5 out of 6 people all had much the same experience even though the sweeteners we were eating were not 'real' sugar or sugar-products.

Anyway - I hope that helps someone... especially if you find yourself in a stall.

        Good luck!

Good grief. I didn't understand about counting splenda in soda as 3 sweeteners. Man oh man that's going to be rough. Sigh. I'm losing about .5 pounds a day drinking at least three can of Diet Rite soda and my wife seems pretty much stalled. I bet there is a good chance it's because of the soda.

Really glad you mentioned that. Thank you!

            Re: diet soda

Each serving of a sweetened food counts as 1 of the 3 daily sweeteners. For example, you use 1 packet of Splenda in your herbal tea for breakfast, you drink 16 oz of diet soda for lunch and you have a mock danish made with 2 packets of Splenda for your evening snack, you've gone over the 3 sweetener limit for the day. (1 packet of Splenda, 16 oz diet soda = 2 servings of soda = 2 sweetener servings, and 2 packets of Spenda in the mock danish = 2 sweetener servings, total for the day = 5 servings of sweetener.)

So I'm confused, is a 12 oz can of splenda sweetened soda considered 1 sweetner or 2 or 3?

                Re: diet soda

With diet soda you also have to look at the sodium. To much will make you retain water, which means stall or weight gain.

Hi Grant - I think Megs meant it was 2. So count 2 sweeteners for each one you drink.

And I guess you don't need reminding - but lots of people on the board will tell you - WATER is the key to loads of weight loss, great looking skin, and about 1,000 more benefits! We are all WATER ADDICTS here!

You are doing fantastic so far! Keep up the great work!

                    Re: diet soda

Each can or bottle will tell you what they consider a 'serving size' is.
I think usually 8 fluid ounces constitutes a 'serving' of drinks, so if the can has 12 fluid ounces it is 1.5 servings, if it is a larger bottle it might be 2 or 3 or more servings.

Hmm...I just found those little crystal light lemonade "to go" packets and added one to my water bottle today. It was sooooo good but I forgot about it and had a slice of home made low-carb cheesecake after dinner tonight. I'll know what to blame if I stall or don't lose

Speaking of crystal lite, my wife has been dying for some orange jjuice. SHe hates water with her breakfast. In the store today we found Crystal Lite Sunrise Orange flavor. Made with splenda. Going to give it a try tommorow morning hopefully it semi-decent.

Whoa, I am so depressed with reading this. I never saw an amount in the book on sugar and carb free pop or splenda for my tea. I must have over 12 a day. This was the only thing making the whole thing work for me. Are we absolutely sure about this?

From the allowed list of foods
Note that each packet of sugar substitute contains about 1 gram of carbohydrate, so don't forget to include the amount in your daily totals.
and from the Rules of induction
9.Avoid foods or drinks sweetened with aspartame. Instead, use sucralose or saccharin. Be sure to count each packet of any of these as 1 gram of carbs.

Thanks for your reply, I have read that many times. However, it does not say limit it "3" a day. In my mind I could count diet pop and or splenda packets in my tea correctly and use them toward my 20 a day. By the way I cut it to 17 just in case I am off somewhere, I drink about 10 cups of herbal tea a day and 1 pack splenda in each.

I have lost 100 pounds doing this and am not going to be too concerned.
