  • Boobies won't go

    Hello

I'm doing great on my diet and seem to be losing weight everywhere but one rather embarassing site? My man boobs. Any other Men (or Women) out there have or had a similar situation and what did you do to get rid of them.

    Thanks

Isn't the world cruel? You might have to talk to a guy about this one, becuase most women I know who are on this are complaining that the FIRST place they lose weight is in their chest. Grrrr. Perhaps we could trade problems??

      Re: Boobies won't go

Unless there is a hormonal reason for having this situation, then I would suggest that this is just stubborn fat like we have in different areas of our bodies. There is no such thing as spot reducing or toning - not really. BUT if you do some weight lifting, it would help with the muscle tone in general and with the fat burning.

It only takes a set of dumb bells and about 20 minutes 2 times a week to see a DRAMATIC difference - including the reduction of fat in some of those harder to lose places. This applies to women also - especially the love handles and belly under their belly button. I've been overweight for YEARS, up to 248 at one time, and with the help of a little bit of weight lifting my waist is now down to 31 inches.

If you continue to have a problem with this area, a dr can easily check your hormone levels and tell you if there is any issue there (and give meds if there is).

My only last comment would be: stay away from SOY products. Except for the few fermented varieties - this is a phytoestrogen - simulating women's hormones to an extreme degree. This can elevate your (and anyone else's) hormone levels to a level that your body cannot handle. See Dana Carpender's article (which is in laymen's terms) at http://www.holdthetoast.com/archive/010411.html

      Hope that helps a bit!

I would think that you would have to do some exercise specifically geared to toning up those muscles.....good luck.

Have you been overweight for a long time? There is a condition in men called gynochomastia, and it is an overgrowth in breast tissue. I think it is often caused by your hormones being thrown off from being overweight, or having a thyroid problem- I don't think there is much you can do if this is it, but perhaps work your pecs more?

In general a lot of us lose fat at different body parts at different ways. In my case, I lost my man boobs when I hit 190lbs.

Keep chugging along. They'll go eventually and you won't miss them.

I've had the opposite occur. I have almost no boobs, but I don't mind. Big boobs won't look right with a small frame...Hmm Maybe do some chest exercises!

                Re: Boobies won't go

I'm female, but have had this problem for some years. I had a breast reduction in 1989, when I was not really overweight to begin with, and it all started coming back before I gained up to the near 300 pounds that I weighed last year. With the weight gain, they ballooned up to an even bigger size than ever before. I've lost 114 pounds, but almost nothing in the chest. It seems that it is not fat at all, but glandular tissue, which does not go away with fat loss. I'm going to have to have another reduction after I reach goal, and pray that they don't come back again by the time I leave this world (I'm almost 57). I also have huge upper arms, all out of proportion to the rest of my arm--same thing--it's not going away with fat loss. Many men have to have reduction surgery to get rid of tissue that is not fat--you may be one of them.

                Sunny!
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

                  Re: Boobies won't go

We can not take the place of your doctor. If you like, here's a little reading up you can do and perhaps get a better understanding of various circumstances under which men can have larger than normal (for males) breasts:

                  http://www.pamf.org/teen/health/malehealth/breasts.html
                  http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/pro...necomastia.html

If your fitness is lacking, you may have a higher body fat percentage at your current weight than someone at the same weight who works out, is fitwith good muscle tone and amount. A pound of muscle takes up less space by far than a pound of fat, so if you can improve the muscle in your problem areas, and convert local fat deposits to additional muscle in the same areas, those areas should naturally shrink, even if you don't lose any weight. You could even gain some in the process, while reshaping the problem areas, because other areas improve fitness at the same time as the target areas.

                  Good luck!
