  • Any Suggestions for Bloating?

Hello all, I've been drinking lots of water with this diet as I know it's important since we get a lot of sodium with the foods here, but I'm still so bloated! Anyone else experience this and what do you suggest?

    Thank you very much.

On the rare occasional that I get bloated, I usually take a couple of PMS tablets (Premysn works) .. contains a mild diuretic which works pretty good.

Watch your salt intake, I find foods like deli meats, pepperoni slices/sticks are the worst offenders for me.

If you haven't been drinking water all along and just now started...then your body doesn't TRUST that you are going to go back to not drinking water. So, it's like a camel in the desert, taking in all that GLORIOUS water...but holding on to it.

When your body finally realizes that these are times of feast (as opposed to famine) regarding the water, it will quit storing all that water and the bloat will go away and you'll get a BIG weight loss on the scale.

        Keep drinking the water.

Unless you're eating alot of processed meats and/or you add alot of salt to your foods, the sodium content on Atkins should be a bit lower than the "standard American diet" which is high in processed foods.

Take a long, hard look at your menu. Make sure the foods you are eating are Atkins "legal" foods and that they are made with "legal" ingredients. Many processed foods contain things like wheat and soy which are both very allergenic substances. If you have a food sensitivity/intolerance to these ingredients, you might bloat.

Ditto what the others said... try to keep the salty things down some and drink more rather than less.

I keep my salt low, so bloat is not something I come across regularly. However, licorice root tea does work nicely in bloat emergencies. I love Aveda ...

                  Re: Any Suggestions for Bloating?

I am on my 6th day of induction (again) and am also bloated.
I am not that much overweight and all the sudden I have a
"water belly" when I look down too.

I have been packing in the water pretty fast lately and sometimes
the water I have drank "swishes" in my belly and I can hear it!

I was pretty sure the water belly was because my body wasn't used
to that much water--now I know I'm right.

I am ready for it to go away. Like Betty said I might have to get out
the old Midol I used to use...and use it for my bloating!

                    Re: Any Suggestions for Bloating?

If it's just your body adjusting to having more water in it, it'll flush itself out as it learns that you're not going to be holding back on giving it more water. If I go through a period of time where I don't drink enough water, then jump back into paying attention to it and having over 100oz a day, it takes about a week to two for my body to realize that it's ok and to stop freaking out about it... So I guess what I'm saying is to give it a little time and keep drinking the water and see if the water flushes out the water... then again, I'm kinda anti-drug (yes, I *do* know that I work in the pharma industry).
