  • Cinnamon?

Is it possible for cinnamon to increase weight loss? About two weeks ago I started adding it to my coffee and I lost 6 pounds last week and 7 this week. Aside from cinnamon, my foods and portions have all stayed the same. Excercise has been the same also.....so is it possible?

    Re: Cinnamon?

I don't know if it speeds up weight loss, it could possibily boost metabolism. But I've been reading lately that cinnamon does have health benefits.

Here's a link with some good info.

I've heard that cinnamon is an appetite supressant. Add a little to your food and you'll be likely to not eat as much.

        Re: Cinnamon?

Interesting article. One thing that caught my eye as it might relate to this WOE was this: Allow diabetics to use less insulin:

Some studies have shown that Cinnamon helps people with diabetes metabolise sugar better. In adult-onset (Type II) diabetes, the pancreas produces insulin, but the body can't use it efficiently to break down blood sugar.

Richard Anderson at the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland found that Cinnamon enhances the ability of insulin to metabolise glucose, helping to control blood sugar levels. Cinnamon contains the anti-oxidant glutathione and a type of flavonoid called MHCP (methylhydroxy chalcone polymer). It is believed that cinnamon makes fat cells much more responsive to insulin, the hormone that regulates sugar metabolism and thus controls the level of glucose in the blood.

"One-eighth of a teaspoon of cinnamon triples insulin efficiency," say James A. Duke, Ph.D., a botanist retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and author of The CRC Handbook of Medicinal Herbs. Dr. Duke suggest that people with adult-onset diabetes discuss Cinnamon's benefits with their doctor. Taking ½ to ¾ teaspoon of ground Cinnamon with each meal may help control blood sugar levels.

Definitely....the first time I put some in coffee, I felt like I was cheating, but i quadruple checked to make sure I wasn't....I don't know if it's the reason for weight loss or not(possibly 13 pounds in 14 days is a freak occurence) but I will definitely continue using it!

                Re: Cinnamon?

I doubt it, I've used cinnamon religously for over a month, and haven't lost any weight. I know it's healthy though and good for you, and tastes good, so I keep using it.

                      Re: Cinnamon?

There was a big previous post on this - one I started I think. It has lots of health benefits. I add both cinnamon and nutmeg to my decaff. can't say it has stimulat4ed weight loss, maybe I'm not using enough. I put about 1 teaspoon of each to 100g of granulated instant decaff. I also have 1/2 teaspoon in my protein shakes (see recipe section).
