  • Adkins has stopped working for me (need some men to reply)

Well it’s been one month and 3 weeks since I have lost weight, the weight has come to a complete halt.
I started the Adkins diet on August 24th and I weighed 245lbs - 250lbs, I now weigh 210 and on some days I weight 205.
my new work out is 30 min of Tred Mill (4 times a week) 2.25 miles (for now) at 24 min (walking the remainder on the time) I ride a stationary bike for 30 min 2 times a week (I don’t know distance on that) I have a online personal trainer that has me 3 times a week benching 145lbs 3 sets of 8 , 10 lbs curls 3 sets of 10, 3 sets of 20 pushups and doing 3 sets of 20 crunches.

I’m not losing inches or weight.
I have no medical issues (Such as diabetes)

My menu is scattered, but it has not changed much from when I was losing weight (I’m afraid I’m eating something with hidden carbs)

I did the Adkins 3 years ago and I had the same problem, my weight just stopped at 210lbs… I’m Getting frustrated and I need some help, my goal weight was 180 by April 8 (my birthday)

Post a couple of menues in the Review My Menu Section.
Did you personal trainer measure your %body fat when you began? If so, you might want that re-measured now and periodically to see if you are losing fat.

The scale can be horrible because it won't tell you if you lost a pound of fat or gained a pound of muscle.

      Another thing...

Are you eating the same amount of food you did when you started Atkins? Generally, as our bodies get smaller, we require less food than we did at our heaviest.

It's very possible to over-eat your Atkins. And while Dr. Atkins said there is no need to keep track of the calories you eat, calories still matter because if you eat more food than your body needs, you will gain weight. That 'metabolic advantage' of Atkins only works for a few hundred extra calories.

Well I know where your coming from because I've been there in the past. I got down to 205 as well and it seemed as though that was it. I couldn't lose anymore. First thing we should know besides how much you weight is you height and age. Also how much muscle you have. Another helpful tool is bone density. Measure your wrists to get a good idea of what kind of structure you hold. What is your waist size? For me, I was a 34" waist 6'0" and 26 years old. My wrists measured 7.5" and I have a fair amount of muscle. I realized for me 205 was a fairly healthy weight. If I were to be 180 there wouldn't be much left to me. When I was in high school I weighed 170 at 6'0" and I was a stick man with no muscle back then. Now 190 might be my max, but then again it's really so hard to say for sure. There seems to be so many variables involved. So you need to figure out these things first. If it's not the case like mine and you still have quite a bit of fat left on you, you might just be in a stall. Your BMR should be between 18 and 25, but that's not always 100% acurate either. These are just tools that can help us judge. Your body constantly tries to fight to maintain its weight. The closer you get to your goal the harder it is too lose weight. Try to mix up your diet more and try a different workout session or types of workout. They don't call it "The battle of the bulge" for nothing!

I would say that I have good muscle mass but I carry a gut.
My wrist measues at 7”, my bicep is 15 ½ but my gut is at 41 (fully pushed out) I have a 36 waist and I am 5’8”- 5’9” tall
My arms & legs are solid , the gut is what I would love to get rid of

Hi. I know you're looking for men to respond, and I'm not one... I stalled around 210 too, long enough to make me jump off the wagon, so I believe it was over 6 weeks... You might want to figure out if that was a weight that you were at for a while going up, sometimes your body remembers things like that so it stays that weight longer on the way down.

Also, did you think about revamping your weight lifting at all? I'm not trying to be really critical or anything, but all you do for a workout is that? I'm a girl, and I curl more weight than you for more sets and reps, can do more pushups, and do more crunches every day... I have only ever been able to have 130 as a max for bench press though... Also, if your cardio workouts are old, you may be able to jump start yourself by mixing it up a little bit - like, do the time on the elliptical or stairmaster instead of the treadmill or bike... things like that can take your body by suprise...

About 4 months ago I tore my bicep working in the construction field so I’m still doing my therapy, Technically I’m not even supposed to be doing curls or pushups but the personal trainer insist he can help in getting me back to where i was (thats the only reason im paying him)

                Hi there,

the same thing happened to me. At about 25lbs (at 6 weeks) lost I seemed to plateau. For nearly two weeks my weight remained the same. Actually I seemed to gain a bit. I had not changed my eating habits one bit! I am not sure why, but perhaps the body needs to adjust to the new "circumstances".

I did get very frustrated, but decided to stick with it. Now I am back to loosing the weight. It has been about one week since the "plateau" and I am once again loosing (5 lbs since).

I have been working out and doing cardio, and I did a bit of research on the cardio part. I increased my time to about 60 mins while maintaining a nice and steady 150 bpm the whole time (I am about to turn 40 yrs.) That might have played a part in getting past the hump.

Anyway, good luck and don't give up. Keep doing what you're doing...

I agree with Megs, Please post a menu in 'review my menu'. what stage are you at in your atkins? If you are still in induction maybe it is time to move onto owl, it can actually break a stall for many people. Having your menu reviewed may also confirm whether or not you're eating hidden carbs.

With your wrists at 7" you have a fairly large bone structure. Although At 5'9", 200lbs+ shouldn't be in the numbers unless your Mr. Universe. Your pant size should be closer to 32-34 rather than the current 36. For a lot of men the last place to lose weight is the lower stomach fat. I usually lose it on my face, arms and legs first. I think 180lbs sounds like a reasonable goal but I'm just guessing according to the information you gave. I still think mixing up your workout would help you the most. Go play some team sports and do a lot of high rep / low resistance core strengthing. Good luck!

I would just say that it hasen't quit working for you. You are still way thinner than you were. I may never get to the weight I origionally wanted. But I was about 290. Now I'm about 205-210 with a couple of runs down under 200.

Over the last year or so I have decided that getting to "zero man boobs" is not the important thing. My health is way better and if I stay in this range I will always want to be a little thinner but will be satisfied that I am healthy now. My BMI says I should still lose about 10 or so pounds and I'm still working on it. But if I stay at this weight the rest of my life "Atkins is working".

I was a competitive powerlifter for years and we dieted a little different but one principle that really works is to zig zag your calories, in other words if you get into too much of a routine of the same thing you can stall, my buddy got me on here and he got stuck and ate more than normal for a few days and then back to normal and he began to lose again. I think the principle of ramping up to mix up your metabolism can definately still apply to this lifestyle.

Is this true for the Atkins?

It's the same theory as working out more for a bit, or doing a different weight lifting routine... it's a small change that throws your body off it's regular routine and makes it do something different.

it's true, ramp up or ramp down for 3 days and see if it works, do not sway from the basic rules of the plan, just jack up the intake.
