Re: Coconut Oil: What Do We Think About It

After several attempts, I discovered that coconut oil does not agree too well with my digestive system!

proportions?? Well...umm...I don't really remember. I just put the coconut oil in a bowl and add sweetener and cocoa powder until it tastes good.

Is it kind of thick like a paste? Or runny? I don't like it real sweet. i actually prefer it a little more bitter.

Re: Coconut Oil: What Do We Think About It

The recipe I have for 'coconut bark' is
                    1 cup melted coconut oil
                    4-6T cocoa powder
                    1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla OR 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp other extract like cherry or orange
2-3 packets of splenda to taste
                    HTH
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

it is the coconut oil.. yes it was a thick paste runny at warm room temp but hardened in the fridg and I did it right because it is the same recipe as Eliz it is ok it is just I used coconut oil to tan with as a kid and that is probably where I get the association the texture is awesome!!!! it feels like a really nice chocolate and I only used 2 packets of Splenda and a pinch of stevia..so it is not too sweet the cocoa is perfect amt.....I am going to taste it again tomorrow and see ...

Re: Coconut Oil: What Do We Think About It

I bought coconut oil once and every time I heated it for cooking in, it just made me gag, the smell is just off for me and I thought I had bought a wrong batch, a friend of mine used it too, she had a really expensive brand, well, same thing, just couldn't get around that smell, so, nah, not for me, and just for making chocolat, I just pass.......

Re: Coconut Oil: What Do We Think About It

We have coconuts all over the place here in the Philippines so virgin coconut oil (VCO) is relatively affordable, though not quite as cheap as the hydrogenated stuff.

VCO was traditionally used in cooking, but fell out of favor for two reasons. One was the saturated fat scare that gave it bad press. The second and more significant factor was that it was difficult to mass produce cold-pressed VCO.

Recently, VCO has received a lot of press regarding its health benefits. A small cottage industry has emerged selling VCO supplements, flavored VCO, etc. Funny how people here have forgotten how their grandmothers used to cook with coconut oil.

Locally, the one spearheading research on VCO is Dr. Conrado S. Dayrit. I heard him interviewed once and he was asked whether the saturated fat in VCO contributed to obesity. He replied, "People are getting fat not because they're eating too much fat. They're getting fat because they're eating too much CARBOHYDRATE!"

I became an instant fan. Lol

I tried it, got the book. I thought it was a waste of time and money. I still have some. I use it as a moisturizer and to remove my makeup. That's just my opinion.
