  • Experts on exercise out there?

Ok well basically i run a 3 mile course i have set out for myself every evening, i clocked in at 18 minutes today which was a new personal best. However during exercise i get strange problems, really thick phlegm (i used to get something like an athsma attack but thats cured itself), a really runny nose, and occasionally a sore throat.

Stranger than that, after i finish the course, i get some kind of rush of blood to my head when i start to rest, and i basically have to try not to pass out for 30 seconds. Its not like exhaustion, its strange, i get the same thing after ive been in the bath lying down then when i get out i have a 10 sec period where i will collapse if i dont focus and hold onto something.

Other than that my late night running has become a routine for me that i quite enjoy. Been doing this for 2 weeks now and i can tell you one thing, getting your fitness up is a really slow process!

    Ian,

I am not sure what to say about your phlegm problem. But I think I can diagnose your "head rush of blood" it sounds a little like dehydration to me (But I am no expert, you may need to consult a doctor).

I have to say that 18 minutes for 3 miles is exceptionally fast. You could be almost winning 5k races at that pace! Great stuff.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

wow I'd say! Good for you! My personal best is only 36 mins. I blame my short legs .

I'd also say make sure you're not running on a totally empty stomach (ie in the morning), maybe have a bit of fat and protein before hand (maybe an hour?).

Was just thinking about this again, Do you have a heart rate monitor? That's a very fast 3 miles, maybe you could try slowing it down a bit...perhaps you are coming too close to your max heart rate? This is regarding the lighheadedness.

Cool! i didnt think 18 mins was very fast for 3 miles. I run late at night, im a bit of a night creature! I cant drink too much before i run or i get a 'stitch' really early on, mind you, i can actually run through a stitch now, it used to be really painfull.

I guess the reason that i thought 18 mins wasnt very good is that the RAF require 1.5 miles in 11 mins , so im barely in the bar for that. I guess when you take into account the first 1.5 miles are easier tho it works out decent.

As for my heartrate when running, i havent monitored it, but at the end it gets obscene. I do this thing where once every 3 minutes or so if it gets to high, ill slow my running speed and count to 5 and then i can speed back up and manage it np.

On even terrain the 3 miles isnt to bad, its that theres a 0.5 mile stretch of decent gradient hill right at the end on the course i worked out. The rest of the run is quite enjoyable this is the eliminator :O

Only thing i can possibly guess for getting extremely thick phlegm is that its something to do with my tonsilitis. UK doctors are taking forever to get them removed........
